A user asked me to cast an eye over the Bane line, and I'm perturbed by this profile.
He himself is well attested, but I'm not seeing anything about his parents in the Overview.
Our profile as it stands has him born in Inverness and immigrating into Pennsylvania.
But his father, James Edward Bane, II at the time of this writing, is born in Aberdeenshire and immigrated into Delaware.
I find this unconvincing.
Do we have evidence that James Bane was the father of Mordecai?
Or, failing that, evidence that James Bane was from Inverness and immigrated into Pennsylvania?

Seems to have his parents as Alexander Bane & Jane Moore.
Mary Teague however seems to be “parents unknown.”

Father of William Bane, Mordecai Bane and Alexander Bane
“Both of his sons, Alexander and Mordecai purchased 200 acres of land in Goshen Twp., Chester Co; Alexander in 1711, and Mordecai in 1716. Mordecai Bean (or Bane) appears to have remained in Goshen, Chester Co., PA, but his brother Alexander probably moved west. "Alexander of New Castle, Delaware, Descendants of James who moved from Delaware to Goshen, Chester Co., PA; thence to Keyser, Hampshire CO., Virginia; thence to Illinois..."[1] Some of the family were still using the name spelling was traditional in Hampshire Co., VA, and in Botetourt Co., for one of Mordecai's daughters, Mary "Polly", was married under the spelling of Bean (see her marriage license).”
What I gather is that “two brothers came to Goshen” and their origins are obscure.

James or John Bane of Scotland, Reported to be the Father
Confusion exists on Bane origins. James Bane is commonly reported as the earliest known Bane. He was born in Scotland ca1650, possibly at Kirkliston in the Lothian region. He is reported to have died 1731 Scotland, but this not for sure. Johnson states that there was a James Bane who immigrated to New Castle County, Delaware in 1688.* A different record suggests his parents to be John Bane and Elizabeth Clark. See Part 3 for a John Bean in 1702/1704 Chester County, Pennsylvania.
* A History of Middle New River Settlements by David E. Johnson, 1906, page 379
Wife’s name is even more problematic. One listing suggests his wife’s name is unknown. Another listing states her to be Helen Thompson, who was born ~1661 in Lothian; another suggests Jean Chambers who was born ~1661 in Lothian. Both are questionable since descendants never named a daughter either Helen or Jean.
Two Brothers Who Came to America
There are two currently known (presumed) brothers who came to America: Mordecai and Alexander Bane (Bean). Both will be detailed here. ...
I don’t agree, actually. We have citations that Mordecai & Alexander were brothers, sons of James Bane. Their mother is ambiguous (varied proposals) and his Biography uncertain, but it seems he was the father. So it’s better to keep the 3 together.
