Hello Will. We have a Y-DNA signature for Jacob Silliker. It is R-BY14667 (formerly R-Z9). It suggests Frisian (Northern Netherlands/Northwest German) origins. This is consistent with the story of New Netherlands emigrant Jacob Hellakers aka Swartwout (the "black carpenter"). Jacob Silliker was my maternal great 5th grandfather. My Ethnogene ethnicity reports shows some Frisian.

There is also a William Silliker listed as an apprentice to his "uncle" Benjamin Leigh. Mr. Leigh's wife was Marretje Bant (Bandt/Bond). She was a descendant of Pieter Bant(a), another early New Netgerlands settler.

These are clues, but nothing definitive has yet surfaced, and Jacob's immediate parentage still remains a genealogical brick wall. Would love to knock this one down.

BTW, I am also a direct descendant of William Chapman, Yorkshire Migration settler. He was my maternal 6th great grrandfatger on a different ancestral line.

Sincerely,

Anthony Gagliani
