Richard Foley and Josephine are my Great Grandparents. Richard was born in Patrick county Ky in 1853. Josephine was born in Ripley, Brown County Ohio in 1859. Richard was living in West Va. in 1880 and Josephine where abouts are uncertain as she is not living with her parents in Pendleton County Ky. There is a list of Josephine Schultz working as a maid for a Do tor in Cincinnati, Oh which is just 30 miles or so down the Ohio River from her family, but there is no way to know for sure.
Sometime between the 1880 census and 1888 these two meet got married and had their first child, Preston Reed Foley ( his name coming from brothers of Richard). I have not however been able to find any marriage certificate or record on this marriage in Ohio, Kentucky or West Virginia. It appears that Richard ,abandoned the family (words my father used, my granfather never talked about him or his childhood at all and neither one of them ever actually meet Richard) and returned to W Va sometime around or before August or September of 1889. I say this because it appears that Richard was never aware that Josephine was pregnant with their 2nd son, my Grandfather Michael Albert ( whose first and middle names come from Josephine's father and brother).
I have not to date found any record of a divorce between these two. The only records that confirm there relationship are my Grandfather' marriage certificate listing Josephine and Richard has his parents, although he has misspelled is mother's maiden name as Schurtz and list then both as being born in Ky. Preston Reeds death certificate also list these two and then there is Richard's will that list Preston and gives his last known residence as Pendleton County Ky. It is the fact that Michael is not listed that leads me to the conclusion that Richard was never aware of Michael's existence.
Both of them remarried, Josephine to Conrad Albrecht and Richard to Eleanore Sullivan. They each had additional children. Fi doing li ing relatives that might be able to fill in any of these gaps has been difficult and has not yet been done.
I know the Richard's son John moved to Akron,Oh and was married more than once. He had a couple of daughters by one or more of these marriages which makes it more difficult to track. When Josephine married Conrad he had several child already. The only one I remember was a man we called Uncle Fred, who was a very nice man who we saw only a couple of times that I remember. Was about my Grandfathers age so I am guessing that they formed a good bond while living together. Josephine and Conrad had a son, Roman C Albrecht born in 1902, who married but I do not know if they ever had any children.
