Joanna was, clearly NOT the daughter of Sir Edmond Jennings. As a knight, the life of Sir Edmond Jennings has been well documented. Sir Edmond and Lady Margaret NEVER had a daughter named Joanna, Jone, or anything similar. And, neither one of them ever set foot in America where Joanna was born. This myth has been debunked many times over but it still remains in hundreds' of trees. Seems that people just love to blindly pass along "Fake News" without bothering to check the facts.
Joanna was probably the daughter of John Jennings, whose land was adjacent to the plantation of Joanna's 1st husband, Bartholomew Owen, on Gray's Creek south of the James River in Surry County, VA.
Joanna married her 2nd husband, Thomas Brookes, in New Kent County (not Jamestown) sometime between 20 Oct 1689 and 17 Apr 1693. She died sometime between 1704 and 1710.
Court records prove that Joanna and Bartholomew had only 4 children in the 11 years they were married. The children were Robert, Katherine, Thomas, and William. Joanna never had a daughter, Martha, and she never had a son (or step-son) John.
Some family trees show Joanna and Thomas Brookes had a son, Thomas Brookes, Jr., but no Primary or Secondary information can be found in Original or Derivative Source Documents to prove that such a son ever existed.
