We should discuss issue. The following does NOT APPEAR correct in the "About Section"
============================================================
Children of Sir Roderick Macleod of Macleod, 15th Chief and Isabel Macdonell
* 1.Ian 'Mor' Macleod of Macleod, 16th Chief+2 d. Sep 1649 <<<<----- appears INCORRECT
* 2.Sir Roderick MacLeod of Talisker2 <<<<----this is okay
* 3.William MacLeod+2 <<<<--- Okay if William Macleod of Hamer
* 4.Donald MacLeod, 1st of Grishornish+2 <<<<--- Okay if Donald Mcleod, progenitor of the Macleods of Greshornish
* 5.Janet MacLeod2 <<<<--- Okay if Janet, who married John Garbh Macloed of Rassay without issue
* 6.Sir Norman MacLeod, 1st of Bernera+2 <<<<----this is okay
============================================================
IDISCREPANCIES:
The forgotten children include:
1. John, his heir and successor
6. Margaret who married Hector Mor Maclean, eldest son of Hector Og Maclean of Duart
7. Mary, who married Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart and Morvern, first Baronet
8. Moire or Marion, who married John Macdonald, tenth of Clanranald with issue
10. Florence, who married Donald MacSween
11. A daughter who married Lachland Maclean of Coll with issue
And There is no Ian 'Mor' Macleod of Macleod, 16th Chief

HERE ARE MY FINDINGS:
According to HISTORY OF MACLEOD the following are children to Sir Roderick Mor Macleod with wife Isabel, daughter of
Donald Macdonald, VIII. of Glengarry.
https://archive.org/details/historyofmacleod00mack/page/90

Sir Roderick Mor Macleod married Isabel, daughter of Donald Macdonald, VIII. of Glengarry, with issue, five
sons and six daughters:
1. John, his heir and successor
2. Sir Roderick Macleod of Talisker, tutor of Macleod
3. Sir Norman Macleod of Bernera
4.William Macleod of Hamer
5. Donald Mcleod, progenitor of the Macleods of Greshornish
9. Janet, who married John Garbh Macloed of Rassay without issue
10. Florence, who married Donald MacSween
11. A daughter who married Lachland Maclean of Coll with issue
This sir Roderic Mor died in 1626 according to the book, which aligns with the profile
See pages 91-92
https://archive.org/details/historyofmacleod00mack/page/90

Presently the children attached to the profile are:
1. John Macleod, 14th of Macleod
John Macleod, 16th of Macleod

2. Mary Macleod (1605-1670)
Mary Macleod

3.Roderick Macleod of Talisker (1606-1675)
Roderick Macleod of Talisker

4.Sir Norman MacLeod 1st of Bernera (1614-1705)
Donald MacLeod, I of Greshornish

5. William Macleod 1st of Hamer (circa 1617-1698)
William Macleod, 1st of Hamer

Marion 'Moir' MacDonald

10. Marion MacDonald (1595 - circa 1650)
Marion 'Moir' MacDonald

11.Isabel MacLeod: (birth circa 1600)
Isabel MacLeod

CONCLUSION:
Remove connection to: Ian 'Mor' Macleod of Macleod, 16th Chief+2 d. Sep 1649 as this appears to be an incorrect link
Add connection to: A daughter who married Lachland Maclean of Coll with issue.

Lachland Maclean of Coll could be:
Lachlan MacLean, 6th Laird of Coll

This is going to happen if you use outdated sources. The standard study of the MacLeods is now the five-volume set The MacLeods: The Genealogy of a Clan, the first volume of which is The Chiefs of the Clan MacLeod, by Alick Morrison. This is the one I cited in reply to one of your earlier posts.

Roderick, thank you. Do you have an online reference for that document?

Delicious. Thank you.

Okay, I see Sir John Macleod http://macleodgenealogy.com/ACMS/D0024/I4.html

!BIOGRAPHY: Alick Morrison, THE CHIEFS OF CLAN MACLEOD, East Kilbride, Scotland, Associate Clan MacLeod Societies,1986, p. 29. "JOHN, who is said to have emigrated to Ireland, where he acquired considerable estates in Galway, was knighted, and, as Sir John MacLeod, was the 'principle man of his name in those parts'. [BANNATYNE MANUSCRIPT.]"

----------------------------------------------------------
Please note that I've since discovered that "Ian 'Mor' Macleod of Macleod, 16th Chief". Is the same as John Macleod of Dunvegan or "Sir John Macleod."

"John Macleod, on account of his great strength and size, was known among his countrymen as " Ian Mor," or Big John. He has a charter, under the Great Seal, of the
lands and barony of Dunvegan, Glenelg, and others, dated the nth of June, 1634." page 98 of HISTORY OF MACLEODS.
https://archive.org/details/historyofmacleod00mack/page/104

So this appears to be correct:
Children of Sir Roderick Macleod of Macleod, 15th Chief and Isabel Macdonell
* 1.Ian 'Mor' Macleod of Macleod, 16th Chief+2 d. Sep 1649

John Macleod, aka "Ian More Macleod of Macleod"

John Macleod, 16th of Macleod

Please help me understand…
Geni lists him as Sir John Macleod the 14th Macleod, but he was 16th, since his father was the 15th.

John Macleod, aka "Ian Mor" Macleod of Macleod"
John Macleod, 16th of Macleod

I question that John Macleod (circa 1600- Sept. 1, 1649) is the 14th of Macleod. I believe he is the 16th

My reasoning...

If the father was the 15th
Sir Roderick MacLeod, 15th Chief of Macleod

Why would the son be the 14th?
John Macleod, 16th of Macleod

So John Macleod, 16th of Macleod
should be the 16th not the 14th

It seems other site agree:
Here we have Ian MOR (16th Chief of) MacLEOD:
http://www.fabpedigree.com/s064/f390772.htm

Down the chain Geni.com has conflicting details for John Breac Macleod, who should be the 18th, but is listed as the 16th by geni.

John Breac Macleod, 18th of Macleod

There are clearly quite a few mistakes in the tree; I suppose I may have introduced some of them, but a lot has been added that I take no responsibility for. There's obviously a confusion between John, 14th chief (d. 1595), the son of William, 13th (d. 1590), and John, 16th (= Iain Mor) (d. 1649), the son of Roderick Mor, 15th. Feel free to go ahead and correct this.

I'm not sure who Alasdair Avonach was, but he was NOT the son of William, 13th, as far as I can see.
