I am in the process of trying to find my great-great-grandmother's father, who was a Pieterse, and have been looking at all the male descendants of Barthold Petersoon up to 1830.
The first "Lucas Marthinus" of all the PIeterses was b4c11 (son of Jacobus David), who died in the concentration camp at Krugersdorp in 1901 at the ripe old age of 87.
His birth year was 1813, according to all the sources I could trace, which ties up with this profile, but the flaying alive does not fit in. Does anybody have more info about it?
Of the 5 sons of Barthold who were born in South Africa, the only one with sons who settled in Rustenburg was Jacobus David (b4), so it is unlikely that this profile is descended from any other line...
Any insights would be interesting!
Jani
PS: My great-grandmother's name was "Hendrina Maria (Pieterse) Coetzee" (1848 - 1941) - maybe somebody have heard of her? (The more you search, the luckier you get!)
