Following The search results

John Nathansen - by "a problem following the search result" - do you mean you get an Ad for Pro often when you click on the result of a Geni search?
Or - what do you mean?

I think Lois' question gets to the heart of the matter.

John Nathansen - if you are referring to getting that Ad for Pro -- there is a 'work-around' that can be used for Public Profiles - are you aware of it?

What i mean is when you search s certaon person that has a profile on geni.com. the result comes up in the search results. Then you can put the cursor on top of The profile name and usually The follow box Pops up and then you can press follow. For Some reason i cant follow The search results anymore.earluer i had no problem following the search result.

When Geni instituted the pop-up windows, they apparently accidentally created a way for Basic Members to go to search results they were not supposed to have access to.
Possibly about two months ago is probably when they "fixed" that.

I believe Basic Members can click on and go to the profiles in Search Results for all profiles in their Max Family, and probably for all profiles they Manage -- and possibly for all Profiles managed by someone in their Max Family -- but beyond that, then definitely they are just supposed to get an Ad for Pro.

What I see is not what I ever thought of as a "Follow Box" -- but "Follow" is one of the Actions you can do from it (listed down the bottom of the Box) - I had never noticed that. Had never noticed it had "Actions" either.
Now, does the box not Pop Up for some profiles, or does it pop up still for all of them, but "Follow" doesn't do anything for some of them?

John -- I see are following 96382 profiles. Apparently clicking "Follow" has been your major activity on Geni.
When one chooses to "Follow" a profile, that means you are asking the system to notify you when Changes are Made to it. And for an unclaimed profile (ie not a geni-user), that is all it means.

I think the idea is to add profiles, add documentation to profiles, add photos to profiles -- and/or to use the information already here to see how you are related to others and/or to read the information and documentation on the profiles of folks -- not just to click "Follow". What is the point of that?

The reason i'm following all these profiles is because i'm related to them.

If the path connecting you is all the same color, then you are blood kin.
If not, then geni is just giving you a way you are connected.
Everybody on the world tree is connected.

I generally only use the term "related" for blood kin and maybe their spouses.
