As a Combs myself and an avid Combs researcher, the only documented proof of his name is Mason "Mace" Combs, not sure who invented the "C" or "Stafford". He was more than likely born in Richmond County, VA near Fredericksburg. to John and Ann Mason. His father John didn't have the middle name Richmond, at least there is no record of it, he was born in Old Rappahannock County which parts became Richmond County, VA. So if anything it was John "of Richmond" Combs. As far as his marriage, the only record that I know of states that he was married to Sarah Ann Nelson in 1734 in Caroline County, VA. I know of only 3 sons and 4 daughters- Sons: John, William and Mason Jr Daughters: Ann, Sarah, Winifred and Wilmot. His known siblings were Elizabeth, Archdale, Judith, Sarah, Mary & Aymee. Even though it says I am one of the managers of this site, I have been locked out from editing. That's the only bad things about these co-op sites, they get butchered and then everyone takes what's on it as gospel.

Hi, Cuz. My "pro" membership expired and I'm probably not going to renew it, so I can't edit him either. Mason Combs Sr. needs a master profile with ONE editor.
I have hundreds of DNA cousins who are descendants of good ol' Mace. My own ancestor is supposedly Winifred Combs via William. But there are two different Winifred "Nancy" Combs, I think. And they are scrambled. Mine died in Missouri, not Kentucky.
One of the issues is the amount of endogamy between the Combs and Stacy and related families. Everybody is descended from everybody.
If you have any documents about Mason, plmk.
Regards,
Sue

Sue, - cancelling your Pro membership does not have any influence on editing profiles within your family group, profiles managed by yourself and collaborators. There is still no limitation on adding profiles either

In fact collaboration gives better access than being a Pro, except of search merging and cutting profiles of none-collaborators.

I removed the 'C', and put Mace as the first A.K.A. entry -- which will then, in some contexts, show the name as:
Mason "Mace" Combs, I

Hi, Rick

I've done some cleanup based on the details you provided.
The one child of Mason (I) I'm not sure what to do with is Josiah Combs ... if he's not an infant-died-young of Mason & Sarah Ann, then might you be able to identify the Geni parents proper for him?

One of the things which Curators can do to help minimize 'corruption' of known-good information is to lock the relationships to a profile (e.g. Mason I's) so that no other children, siblings, spouses, or parents can be added to it). In addition, details fields can be locked with the correct values so that subsequent merges will not change them.

It is always great to have an 'expert' in a particular lineage to verify the details and the "connections" so that they *can* be locked down. If you can do that for Mason and his father's family (John Richmond Combs, I), then we can move up & down the branches from there, verifying & locking as they are "completed".
