I will use generation labels instead of names to make it easier to tell these people apart.

The characters:
Mother: Sarah “Sallie” Curry born about 1793 Sarah "Sally" Curry (Taylor)
Father: Barnabus Curry born in 1789.

Daughter: Susannah Curry Rader Susannah Rider

Granddaughter: Hannah Rader Vance born 1794 Hannah Vance

Great-grandaughter: Susannah Vance Ellis born 1815 Susannah Ellis

The problem: According to their profiles, Mother and Granddaughter were born 5 years apart. Daughter is about 16 years older than either one of them.

There’s very little online information about Mother and Daughter and their husbands.

Daughter, Grandaughter, and Great-Granddaughter are all named Susannah or Hannah, which is a reasonable nickname for Susannah. Mother is named Sarah/Sallie which is also pretty close to Susannah. It would be very easy to mix them up.

I think that Mother and Granddaughter are the same person with different husbands assigned to them.

MyHeritage has some information on Daughter and her husband John Rader. They say Daughter was born in 1767 and John Rader was born around 1760. That’s an appropriate age for the parents of Mother/Grandmother. Daughter’s maiden name is Curry.

There are no problems with Great-Grandaughter apart from the fact that her ancestry is a mess.

This leaves the question of who Father is. His birthdate is appropriate for a son of John Rader and Susannah Curry Rader (Daughter) but he has the wrong last name. He might be Daughter’s child from a previous relationship, or he might be a family member such a nephew.

Side issue: Great-granddaughter’s husband William Harvey Vance has 8 profiles that probably ought to be merged. I have no doubt that he is real. The master profile for his sister Elizabeth Vance shows him as being both her husband and her brother. She never married and is the grandmother of “Devil Anse” Hatfield of Hatfield and McCoy fame. Here’s her profile: Elizabeth Vance The link to her husband/brother’s profile is very incomplete. I started a discussion about the husband/brother issue on Elizabeth’s profile but didn’t talk about how many other profiles he has.

According to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/family/L63F-L8K Hannah Rader was married to John Vance (the brother of William Harvey Vance). They have backup for it here: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/L63F-L8K John Vance's profile is here: John Vance and his wife is a duplicate profile for Hannah Rader: Hannah Vance

Going to try to figure this out Caroline, long messy process. Working it along with Erica Howton, Curator of this site.

Lloyd Alfred Doss, Jr. You read my mind, I was going to tag you.

I did some power merging and I saw a John merged into William Harvey. Let’s see if I can fish him out.

William Harvey Vance Is sorted.

John Vance Wives and kids need the next round.

I think we’re missing the wife of John B. Ferrell

From https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/42430540

Elizabeth Vance children, Nancy Ann Vance Hatfield and James "Bad Jim" Vance, were the children of John Ferrell born 1793 Russell Co Va. John Ferrell was married to Jane Taylor and had Elizabeth Vance as a girl friend. John Ferrell was s/o John William Ferrell and Nancy Jackson. This Ferrell Family is in my Family Tree. Elizabeth Vance married Lewis Horton long after she had the children Nancy and James.

Elizabeth's father Abner Vance shot Lewis Horton for running off with his unmarried daughter for a couple of weeks, and was hanged for Horton's murder in 1819. Elizabeth never married Horton, but it's believed that Nancy Vance Hatfield was Horton's daughter.

Just FYI, the Vance that particularly interests me is Susannah Vance, born about 1815, who married Squire Ellis. She is currently listed as the granddaughter of Abner Vance, and I'm hoping that she will retain that status regardless of precisely who her father and mother turn out to be.

Re the paternity of Nancy Vance Hatfield, this is what it says on her profile Nancy Ann Hatfield

"There are two theories for the origins of Nancy Vance Hatfield. The most likely one is that she was the illegitimate child of Elizabeth Vance (1794 - 1850) and Lewis Horton. Lewis was shot to death for getting one of the daughters of Abner Vance pregnant and refusing to marry her. Family lore has always held that Elizabeth the was daughter and that Nancy was the baby. In this case, Nancy's date of birth would be c.1817, and not the 1813 we frequently see in sources for Nancy. "
