Sharon Doubell The Marguerite ladies all changed to Margaretha once in South Africa. That is the reason for the name. ☺

Maybe we must place the French name when baptised as such but the Afrikaans in the label as Nickname. Just a suggestion. I do think this would help a lot with confusion.

Yes. I think Name as on baptismal certificate is useful, but in this case isn't the problem that she's "Magdalena",

HI Sharon Doubell in perfect situations the name Marguerite would have gone forward and down the line, but due to the difficulty of the Netherlands officials they could spell it that way and that is when the Holland spelling started. It is very interesting to read all the original names. Like Jean that became Jan and numerous others.
