William Downing - What's the Source?

According to Heather Ann Huffman, who added this profile, her source was FamilySearch Family Tree, which cites non-specific family genealogies as its source: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L8R4-5WS

However, according to Jean Wall, a self-professed Downing family expert, Timothy had 2 known sons: James, married Susannah (unknown birth name), and Timothy, married Sarah Chenowith and Mary Chenowith. Notice that neither of these sons were named William. I think James is generally accepted, but I think it would be better to list the other son as Timothy. My only concern with this is that I have the younger Timothy Downing as a son of James, not the elder Timothy.
