My name is John Oliver Goldsmith (born 29 June 1953) and I have started a Goldsmith family tree on this site. However I am curious about my maternal ancestors! My maternal grandmother was Edith Annie Ashby (1900 -1967). She was brought up at her family home which was Quenby Hall in Leicestershire UK before it was sold in WW1 to pay debts. The junior branch of the Ashby departed for America circa 1650ish and I am wondering if Captain Thomas Ashby above could have been a son of John Ashby Cassique of Quenby who I have found listed here and was born in the UK but died in Virginia. I would be fascinated to know if i am an indirect decendent of Turner Ashby who died in the Civil war for the Confederacy? John Oliver Goldsmith (Oliver named after the poet (1728-1774) who appears on my Irish father's family tree!)
