24/10/1790 Nace el Licenciado José María Benitez, quien fuera médico del Ejército Libertador desde el año 1814 hasta el año 1818. Fue descubridor de la "Quinina"o árbol de la quina en Venezuela.
José María Benitez, a long time Surgeon in the Patriotic Independent Ranks (1814-1818), saw the wrath of war on the battlefield first hand. Inventor of "Quinine", a natural "Morphine", or pain.killer, which he brewed from the "Quina" tree in Venettzuela.
He sounds like an interesting man and deserves a profile in Geni. (I didn't find him in Geni, but I have basic membership & have to go thru Google -- "Name (DOB-DOD) In Geni" which usually works.) Please add him to the Medical Scientist & Inventors project once a profile is created for him. If you don't feel comfortable in creating a profile for him, see if there is someone (maybe a curator?) who would be willing to to do so.
The site you have above looks like it has a lot of info about him, although I would need to have it translated first to read it to see what family info it may also contain...
I will invite you to the [https://www.geni.com/projects/Medical-Scientists-Inventors/47792 Medical Scientists & Inventors] project so you can add him to it...
These projects might also be appropriate for him: [https://www.geni.com/projects/Doctors-Medical-Practitioners/18219 Doctors - Medical practitioners] OR [https://www.geni.com/projects/Medicinae-Doctor/18064 Medicinae Doctor] (I'm not sure what language the second one is in.) :-(
FYI -- there is a Medical Portal that has all (?) medically related projects. See: https://www.geni.com/projects/Medical-Portal/47725
Thank you for finding this interesting man.
