I am wondering if any one else would find it useful if a date was added to the "search people" box?

There are many names that are the same but dates very greatly. If I am looking for a name, sometimes 2,5,10, or 50 pages show up with lists of people with the same name. If we could search by name and year at the top of the page, then it would cut down the hunt tremendously, saving a lot if time. It would also prevent unnecessary duplicates that you don't know you are creating, that you end up having to merge or delete anyway. You would also be able to identify duplicates much easier, even when the program misses them.

Just a thought.

David - after you do a search - do you see the box to the left of the results (upper left, yellow box), where you can modify / refine the search?
Click on Events in that box, and I believe you will see you have the option you are asking for. (I haven't tried it for dates since long ago, when I was less than thrilled by how it worked - but it is there and may be working well by now - if you do choose to use dates, click "Options" as well to choose whether or not to match blank years; I frequently make use of naming some family members (under family).

Lois Lubin, I was unaware that date was listed as an option under event in the yellow box. I guess I need to snoop around some more. I will give it a try. Thanks very much for your help.

David. I feel that it would be a useful tool. An example is Slavic families where you have individuals named after grandfathers, GGgrandfathers. I like the idean and it would help me tremendously.

You have many options under Advanced search, including this one. It has been available for a long time.
