I can't find any original details for Jan Marinus Ellewit but it feels like that two individuals (brothers?) have been merged together:
1) Jan Ellewits married to Anna Lacroix van der Dreeft with as children Francois Janse Ellewits and Anthony Jans Ellewits; and
2) Marinus Ellewits married to Lena Schillemans Goudswaard with as children Jan Marinusse Ellewit and Lena Marinusse Ellewit.
At least the patronyms of the children seem to point in this direction. But I have no prove for any of this; just a feeling that something isn't right here.

It also leaves a couple of questions open:
1) who was Leijntje Koks married to?
2) whose son was Cornelis Ellewit ? Not much seems to be know about him.

I would like any input from other managers, followers or interested parties before I would make any changes.

Yes I believe this was a French Huguenot-Sephardic Jewish connection. Of course there's no synagogue records to prove this, but to me so far this has the best explanation. Many converso Sephardim joined the Huguenots in France. El lewit could possibly mean "the Levite", or could be a variation of Ashkenazic Elewitz. Many Sephardim took Ashkenazi surnames in the Netherlands. La Croix or de la Croix was a common Huguenot surname. The family had first arrived in Dreef in Belgium, Flanders I believe.
