John Griffith, as far as is known, was born and died in Wales. It is possible he met and married someone from Maryland named Elizabeth but very improbable. Since John and Elizabeth are very common first names (about 25% of men were named John and about 18% of women were named Elizabeth then) this is an easy mistake to make. Welch names llke Griffith are also very common in Wales.
