Seconding and elaborating on what Anne asked - I take it you input a name in the Search Box - is that correct? And then what happened?
Are you referring to the list of choices under Actions when one gets one's search results?
Often these include "Contact Profile Manager" / "View Tree" / "View List"
-- but looking now, it seems "View List" is often not there
Also - for claimed profiles (ie Geni Users) instead of any of those three, I am now seeing "Send Message" and "Add to Family Group" - and it looks like there is never a "View Tree" for any of them -- is this what you are referring to?
(I honestly do not remember if there used to be or not - do others?)
Thank you for responding cousins! Yes I am referring to the list of actions after a search result. If I hover on the name, nothing appears, and if I click I am directed to a page to buy a membership. I used to be able to click on view tree, and then click on the name and see our relationship. Could I personally be banned or something if it is working for other non-pro members? I had so much fun with this! Because my mother is Faroese basically all of the church books are online so I have an easy time seeing relationships. Checking out random famous people often led me down interesting paths as I could see where our direct lines diverged and I could find new direct ancestors. (sigh) I miss my fun! Also, for those with pro memberships, I have often wondered if you can see the multiple ways you are related to someone. For instance, Queen Elizabeth 2 is my 18th cousin, and if I looked up Prince Philip (please don't be upset about the titles I use) it would say he is my 18th cousin's husband. But it I go back on his tree, I found my common ancestors, and coming forward again, I could see he was my 17th cousin. The relationship generator seems to take the easiest path when you have just looked someone up. Just wondering if the Pro membership had those more detailed relationship parameters. Thanks again. I love this stuff!
Private User -- I am quite sure it was NOT aimed personally at you.
My guess - they realized by including "View Tree" as an action for those outside one's Max Family / folks one had edit rights on, that Basic Users were easily able to do exactly what you describe -- and they changed the programming.
Most Basic Users probably didn't realize they had that ability. Good on you to have realized it and taken advantage of it.
Quite sure they changed it for all of us - until I was looking to answer your question, I had not realized what criteria determined if I saw "View Tree" or did not on the Search Results - sort of thought it for a while it was there for all profiles, but not sure (originally we could not click View Tree for folks outside our Max Family, even from their profile).
For a Pro - it means now sometimes we can click "View Tree" directly from Search, sometimes have to go to Profile to click "View Tree" - for Basic it means sometimes they can click "View Tree", sometimes they get 'Ad for Pro'
Now that I understand what you meant and think about it - definitely sure this was a purposeful change. Out of curiosity - do you recall when it happened?
No, Pro does not allow one to see multiple relationships. It works exactly the same for Pro.
Have you found this work-around for Public Profiles -- while logged in to Geni - use Google to search for the Profile - include "site:geni.com" [not quotes around it] in the search line, to make sure the geni-hits are ones you see first - then click on -- you get an Ad for Pro if click on from Geni's Search -- you go to the Profile if click on from Google's search [if you have a different favorite search engine - probably works for it as well] [possibly another reason many Basic Users haven't mentioned noticing the change]
