I would like to know who his parents and grandparents are. I think his father was William Hill from Maryland who was married to Anne.

Thanks for your reply Robert. The info. You found is correct. Most researchers feel that his father was also a William who moved to Virginia from Maryland. That is as far as anyone knows about his ancestry. It is an ongoing mystery.

I too, am trying to find out Matthew Hill, Sr.’s parentage. I found a page from Alabama Dept of Archives and History that indicates William Hill, Sr. (Born 1710) is half brother to Green Hill, John Hill, Abner Hill and Mary Hill with their mother being Hannah Green. Green Hill married Grace Bennett. Record lists their children and then as an afterthought mentions a son named Matthew Hill that moved to Stokes County. He married Lucy Witt and had a son named Matthew who later moved to Tenn. I just can’t find any records to back anything up.

My father and his sisters told the story of our Rev. War relative all of my life. We were told that our G???Grandfather was an officer in the Rev. War and was camping with his men in the woods and a tree branch fell on him and died. This story has been passed down from generation to generation warning us to always be aware of dead tree branches. This story fits with Robert and with his father William.
I know for sure that my GGG???grandfather was John Phillips Hill 1745-1808. His age fits as Robert's brother and William's son. I can not find proof that my John is William's son.
I have DNA matches to William on Ancestry.com. My John lived in Prince Edward. A lot of people on Ancestry has that he was born in Prince Edward but it wasn't formed until a few years after his birth. Does anyone have any information that can help me? Thank you Mary Ida Hill Kilgore
