Hi all . My paternal DNA links back directly to King Nial of the Nine hostages . Why can I not read his name under famous members ? I can read the last Tsar of Rusia was also R-M269 . My subclade haplogroup is R-CTS9219 ( from R-M269) . I found out that some related people are from especially Balkan’s , North Italy , Netherlands, UK and Ireland , and many from USA of course . Kind regards to all , and honor to our ancestors:) I' looking forward about a message, also PM .

Hi Ed.
According to Geni, I connect with Nial as well.

I might also add my own findings thus far on my DNA:
R1b1a2a1a2a1b1a R-M269 >> R1b-CTS4716 (R1b-Z199, R1b-Z200)
(Morely YDNA subclade predictor) R1b1a1a2 (R-M269; known previously as R1b1a2). R-CTS606.

It seems somewhat similar to yours.

What all this means is relatively unknown to me. However, I do know that (after attending RootsTech last week) the DNA talks indicated that atDNA can only be traced back 6 or 7 generations. Basically, the way the DNA is distributed downstream, much gets lost, dropped off, etc.

I'll throw mud Genesis kit numbers in here as well, if you'd like to run some (unfortunately autosomal checks, as that is all that Gedmatch/Genesis deals with) checks to see if some 'slight' matches come up.

HP9917098 (livingDNA)
PV1099041 (Ancestry)
YD6120745 (FTDNA)
FN5297119 (MyHeritage)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't know how well (how verifiable) all the DNA is with someone so far back as Nial.

Best regards,
Marvin

Thanks a lot for the informations . So much things , I have to check it out :) kind regards from Europe

Is this the gentleman you're lookin got, find, here on Geni, Ed?
Niall of the Nine Hostages, King of the Connachta

My Maternal Full Uncle Buck Cox, has done his dna and Y, is also, R-M269 U-152

Please do not add DNA information to Niall’s profile page unless you are very careful about what you are doing.

Earlier scholarly conclusions have been brought into question.

Hi, This is all very interesting.
Anne

@Anne : I'm not a scientist, I got the result from an American lab that says I share the DNA R-M269 with King Niall, that's all. Nothing was questioned... @Theresa : yea same case :)) Kind regard to you

Hi there cousins. I see that we share the same R-M269 variants with R-L21 which is also connected to Mac Niall of the 9 Hostages. My guest is that your R-M269 was done either with 23andme, or some other related DNA lab. With the several DNA test I have taken. It seems that my origins of ethnicity of is over 36 tags to mostly European, and my family tree lineages seems to match these variants. (According to AncestryDNA and 23andme) As far as I am concern. The markers will vary, and seems that most of us is linked to R-M269. I am satisfied with the results.

my markers were pretty darn close to those provided in the document above (posted by Anne Brannen)...Very close, only a few off. Surprisingly.

Hi there. I am pretty new to this and was surprised by Geni linking me to Niall of the nine hostages through my father's line, my 47th great grandfather, I have not done any DNA tests and don't know if it is worth it. I am from South Africa

According to 23 n Me (My brothers DNA) we share a paternal-line ancestor with Niall of the Nine Hostages. Geni says he is my 42nd Great Grandfather on my dad's side. My brothers Y Haplo is
R-CTS241

Debbie, did 23 & Me 'expressly' state you shared DNA segments with Niall?
The reason I'm asking is that I thought 23 & Me didn't do much of that genealogy stuff, and I'm curious. I thought they were more into phenotype DNA stuff. Just curious because it's the one company I haven't tested with.

Niall is my 42nd GGrandfather on my Father's side.

Cheers
O M Peavy

@Marvin Loyd Welborn; Here is what it says: You share a paternal-line ancestor with Niall of the Nine Hostages. Then it goes on to explain who Naill is as follows:

The spread of haplogroup R-M269 in northern Ireland and Scotland was likely aided by men like Niall of the Nine Hostages. Perhaps more myth than man, Niall of the Nine Hostages is said to have been a King of Tara in northwestern Ireland in the late 4th century C.E. His name comes from a tale of nine hostages that he held from the regions he ruled over. Though the legendary stories of his life may have been invented hundreds of years after he died, genetic evidence suggests that the Uí Néill dynasty, whose name means "descendants of Niall," did in fact trace back to just one man who bore a branch of haplogroup R-M269.

The Uí Néill ruled to various degrees as kings of Ireland from the 7th to the 11th century C.E. In the highly patriarchal society of medieval Ireland, their status allowed them to have outsized numbers of children and spread their paternal lineage each generation. In fact, researchers have estimated that between 2 and 3 million men with roots in north-west Ireland are paternal-line descendants of Niall.

PS I manage my brothers 23 & me and that is for him or my fathers line.

@Merrell PEAVY you are my 14th cousin, through my mother's line.

Marvin Loyd WELBORN you are my 15th cousin twice removed through my mother's side.

@Debbie Bell. Yes, but it must be autosomal DNA.

@Marvin Loyd Welborn. 23 & Me gives you both mother/father Haplo's for men and a breakdown of heritage for both. (Which was why I chose them, I did my mtdna and autosomal at ftdna) It gave me the U5a2c (ftdna gives me a U5a2c4) for both my brother and daughter. Then it gave me a R-CTS241 for my brothers Y dna and some of the explanation for the Y ancestry is what I posted above.
