Do you have to have all 4 mutations to be considered Ashkenazi? My husband's J line has 2 of the four.

I dont know but my dad has 3 out of four.and on Gedmatch he has get the result of being ashkenazi jewish. However i have later tested my Dads mom and she is only middle easten jewish. and no ashkenazi. However my grate grandma claim to have jewish ancestery on her mathernal line. So i follow this page to see if something intresting comes up. Plus some matches to my dad on Mtdna on Familytree claim also that they have jewish ancestery on there maternal line.

Thank you Anna. I'm not sure of a claim to being Jewish in my husbands line but he has the MTDNA that matches this project. I know his mom's side has a lot of Scandinavian roots but I haven't really looked at mom to mom I don't think.

Debbie Bell (Allen) Well that is good to read, it is free of charge to research ancestery in both norway and sweden now.

My dad is tested on familytree and i seems that it is mostly german ancester. But he have only in sweden what i have found so far.

Anna, After my last post I decided to look at my husbands maternal line and go back as far as I could, and sure enough it is German - just following mother to mother... and yes he has roots in Norway and Sweden on his mother's side as well, but that is not following the mother to mother root which is what MtDNA does. Gedmatch did say something about Ashkenazi but it was a very small % since it is so far down the family line. Same with my line. I find Sephardic Jew on my side and same thing it's very far down the line. To be truthful, I believe we are all related anyway. :)

Well, i have read the blog of the creaters to the test and if you have over 2% in the J test then you have some, ashkenazi. And if you then take the newest europenan test and the J procent is spread on southt east (i think it was. Close to israel today.) Then it is even more higher procent chans that you are. Then if you like me have more then 3 matches (not mtdna) that is on the same branch, then it is 100% that you are related. Now the "problem" is that there ancesters was from Poland and Ashkenazi. And i dont know of any in my tree? However i have some nobel people in my tree and they havent really been mixing. So my dad has one match noted as 2 cousin, but in realty they are 5 cousin, So I guess the thing that people that has to matches you within 400 years could be false and it is hard to search so far back.

Thank you Anna I appreciate your help.
