Cornelius Joseph O'Bryan, I - Match to "Sir Cornelius Bryan in WikiTree".

There has been a discussion among WikiTree genealogists with an interest in both Cornelius O'Bryan, subject of this profile, and "Sir Cornelius Bryan". Steps are being taken to clean up the profile of "Sir". Eventually the title will be removed and Thomas O'Bryan will be disconnected from him, leaving Thomas as a son of Cornelius and Rebecca O'Bryan. The consensus on WikiTree is that "Sir Cornelius Bryan" is a fiction.

Definitely would love to see Geni cleaned up also.

At least we got his Ancestry off the Vicar of Hell, but the parents showing are still pretty mythical, aren’t they ?

Erica, I'm sorry I somehow missed your comment. Yes, I agree that there is no real evidence, certainly no proof, of who Cornelius's parents might be. Brian O'Bryan was suggested by one Michael J. O'Brien in his 1979 article, "Irish Settlers in America" published in "The Journal of the American Irish Historical Society". He did not give a source for the supposed connection, and a lot of Bryan/O'Bryan/O'Brien genealogists simply went with it, putting Bryan O'Bryan in their family trees. Since then, like gossip, the story has just kept spreading without any basis in fact.
