William Walthall (7 Mar. 1740/1 -1781), a beneficiary of the will of his uncle Joseph Bass, married Martha Field Archer . He was an ensign in the Chesterfield County Militia during the Revolution. William Walthall Sr. bought the plantation Roxdale (Rocksdale, Rochsdale) from Capt. Joseph Ligon for £1,200 13 November 1760, which he deeded to his son 1 November 1770. Martha and William were the parents of the three women whom their grandfather William Walthall Sr. identified in his 1788-will. William was dead by 6 July 1781 when the court granted Edward Archer and Archard Walthall administration of his estate. In March 1782 three citizens inventoried the estate of William Walthall Jr., which was enumerated with four whites and 24 blacks in 1783. Martha, who married second Francis Osborne in Chesterfield County 23 July 1789, left a will in Chesterfield County (will dated 6 Nov. 1798, recorded 9 Dec. 1805).
