WHITFIELD RECORD.

The Whitfields originally came from Lancashire, England. This record begins with the first Whitfield who came to North Carolina. William Whitfield came from England the early part of the 18th Century and settled in Nansemond County, Va. He married Elizabeth Goodman of 'Gates Co., N. C., in 1713, then settled in Bertie Co., but eventually moved to Rockford, Lenoir Co., N. C. They had four sons and six daughters. William, Matthew, Luke and Constantine, Mary, Margaret, Sarah, Patience, Elizabeth and Charity.
The 2d Wm. Whitfield (son of William Whitfield and Elizabeth Goodman), born May 20th, 1715, died March 31st, 1795. Married Nov. 6th, 1741, Rachel Bryan (daughter of Needham Bryan and his first wife Anne Rombeau, Rachel Bryan was born June 10th, 1723, died Nov. 17b0. Lssme four sons and five daughters, viz:
(1) William Whitfield III born June 1st, 1743, died March 1817.
(2) Elizabeth Whitfield born March 16th, 1746; (3) Sarah Whitfield born April 16th, 1749, died Jan'y 22nd, 1780; (4) Charity Whitfield born April 6th, 1756, died Augt 21st, 1818; (5) Needham Whitfield born Feb'y 20th, 1758, died April 6th, 1812; (6) Bryan Whitfield born Feb'y 9th, 1754; (7) Rachel Whitfield born Sept. 16th, 1760; (8) Mary Whitfield born May 18th, 1763; (9) Lewis Whitfield born 1766. Have given as many births and deaths as could be obtained.

(5) Constantine Whitfield (4th son of William Whitfield I and Elizabeth Goodman), born Mch 6th, 1728, died 1798, md. Barbara Williams, who came from Bertie County, N. C., with Rachel Bryan when she married William Whitfield.
Mary Whitfield (6th child of William Whitfield I and Elizabeth Goodman), md. John Grady, had a large family, among them, John, Alexander, Frederick, and Mary Grady.
(6) Patience (daughter of William Whitfield I and Elizabeth Goodman), md. Edward Outlaw, issue Alexander, James and Edward Outlaw.
(7) Margaret (daughter of William Whitfield I and Elizabeth
Goodman), md. Barefield, after his death, she went South and
married Winkfield.
