There are numerous inconsistencies between the various bits of information included in the Geni profile of James Annanias McMullen. Many of these inconsistencies involve information I entered and thus the problems were of my creation. I'd appreciate help in resolving these problems.
Most of the information I added to James' profile is from three sources:
A) Brian Muckleston's family tree in Geneanet: https://gw.geneanet.org/bmuckleston?lang=en&iz=115&p=james&...
B) Robert A. Christiansen's excellent account of the McMullens of Mills and Pottawattamie Counties in Iowa:
https://www.bigpigeon.us/uploads/5/2/7/5/52755035/reelscemetery.pdf
C) James Annanias McMullen is Kate's fourth great grandfather and our family has its own records.
There are enough inconsistencies in @James Annanias McMullen that I suspect there was more than one James McMullen/McMullin:
A) One moving westward into Missouri in 1830 or 1840 and then into western Iowa in the early 1850's, and
B) One living in southern Ohio in the 1840's to about 1852, moving to western Illinois in the 1860's and eastern Iowa in the 1870's.
The observations listed below support my suspicion; most are from the "Timelines" tab of James Annanias McMullen's profile.
1) His birthdate is listed as 1810 in our family records, 1818 by Muckleston and Christiansen.
2) If one accepts the 1818 birth date, then J.A.M. was 12 years old at the birth of his son Lewis D.
3) J.A.M. married Mary Viers in Jefferson County in 1836 (Muckleston), or he married Mary Vears in 1838-39 in Missouri
(Christiansen). Either way, Lewis, Minerva, and James W. were conceived out of wedlock.
4) Lewis was born in Ohio in 1830 as was James W. in 1836. But Minerva was born in 1835 in Missouri. Did they move around
this much?
5) Similarly, Josephine and Malvina both were born in Adams County, OH in 1840 and 1842, respectively. In between, William A.
was born in 1841 in Missouri.
6) According to the U.S. Census, J.A.M. and most of his children were living in Meigs County, OH in 1850. The two Missouri-borne
children, Minerva and William A., were not. Minerva would have been 15 years old in 1850, William A. only 9. Why were they
not with the rest of the family?
7) According to his obituary (see "Sources" tab at his profile), William A. moved from Missouri to Mills County, IA in the early
1850's. He would have been 12 years old in 1853; certainly too young to travel on his own. Why wasn't he back in Meigs
County OH with the others?
8) J.A.M. died in 1888 in our records and Muckleston's; after 1894 according to Christiansen.
9) Our records show him buried in Wapello County IA; this Gent profile lists Malvern (Mills County), IA as his burial site.
10) Janice McMullin Hanson, great great grandaughter of J.A.M. observed that her ancestor is always referred to as James
McMullen in Illinois and Ohio, but Annanias McMullin in Wapello County, Iowa.
(See Find A Grave, database and images (https://www.findagrave.com : accessed 07 February 2019), memorial page for
Annanias James McMullin (1810–14 May 1888), Find A Grave Memorial no. 39446775, citing McCormick Cemetery, Highland
Center, Wapello County, Iowa, USA ; Maintained by Cari Dale (contributor 46865083) .
Two different birth dates, two different marriage dates, two different death dates, and two different burial sites. Two similar but slightly different names. A family with young children being born and living in both Ohio and Missouri simultaneously. I think this make a strong case for the existence of two separate James Annanias McMullen/Annanias James McMullin families.
Does anyone have more information?
Hope this helps:James Mcmullen son of Ananias and Mary:

Rich,
Thanks for the feedback. I was aware of this document but couldn't get ahold of a copy.
I am Steve Schuetz; my daughter Kate and I share a Geni account. I was the one researching James Annanias McMullen and I started the discussion. Kate's grandmother, Janice McMullin Hanson, is a grandaughter of the James McMullin who is the subject of the bibliography you supplied.
The bibliography is consistent with our family records. It does not mention any moves to Missouri or siblings born in Missouri, nor any time spent in Mills or Pottawattamie counties in Iowa.
I am tempted to remove the Missouri-born children, Minerva and William A., from the tree. Any comments?
Thanks, Steve.
There is a Janice Coleen Mcmullin listed in Ancestry with:
Spouse: Dwight Eugene Hanson
Father: Carroll Downes McMullin
Mother: Irene M Mcglothlen
Ananias McMullin gravesite: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/39446775
There are numerous James McMulin listed in Mills County Iowa area, as I think you know.
Lewis (Louis) D. McMullin is my GGGrandfather and I have lots of details on him and family if you help me identify which pieces may assist you.
I have accounts with Ancestry, My Heritage, and Family Search and will be happy to search items for you with a few hints from you. Just let me know.

I apologize for the late reply to your post of 2/21. I distinctly remember composing a response but I can find no trace of it. I can only conclude that I pushed the wrong button and made it evaporate.
The people you mentioned most recently are direct ancestors of Kate, so we are indeed discussing the same branch of the McMullin/McMullen tree.
Your knowledge of Lewis D. McMullin could be quite helpful in resolving some of the inconsistencies I raised when starting the discussion. Specifically:
1) Was Lewis born in 1830 in Ohio?
2) Was Mary Viers/Vears his mother?
3) Do you know when/where Mary Viers and James Annanias McMullin were married?
4) My records show Lewis in Ohio in 1830, in Virginia/W Virginia in 1837, in Meigs County Ohio 1850, Henderson County IL 1852-1860 and moving to Mills County Iowa in 1866/67. Does this match your information?
5) Did Lewis live in Missouri at any time?
Clearing up any of these question would be a big help. Thank you.
Steve
More evidence for the existence of two separate James Annanias McMullen/Annanias James McMullin lines:
Janice McMullin Hanson died 20 December 2019 and, in cleaning out her effects, we came across a letter (ca 2004) from Jim Hunter of Utah, stating
"Janice,
I do have one of the James and Mary McMullin's in my line. There are two sets; I confess that it really confused me for quite a while. James and Mary Vears McMullin are not in my line, that I can find. My James was born in 1818 and died in 1904. His wife, whose maiden name I do not yet know, was born in 1818 and died in 1888. I found both sets in different places in the Mills County census."
