Dear Judith, I too am rellgtively new to the Kashubian Connecion and my family heritage. We are a tribe which migrated sometime around the time of Christ from the Baltic south to the eastern part of Poland now called East Prussia or Pomerania. I do not know much about our people except that we were pagans and probably visciously attacked by the Catholic Teutonic Knights during the Teutonic Crusade in the 1200's. Our people, Jewish (of whom there were some) or pagan chose conversion to Catholicism over death. Many Kashubians migrated to the US in the early 1800's and Wisconsin-Minnesota was their destination. If you have family there then who knows , we might even be related. Please write back if you have further comments or questions. Mana Lesman pintoramt@gmail.com
There is a "Kashubian/Kaszubian History and Culture" project on Geni. In addition to giving information on Kashubian museums in Poland, Canada and the U.S., it provides information on some of the folk art (e.g. Kashubian embroidery, folk dancing, etc.) as well as profiles of Kashubians (both past and present) who are/were responsible for preserving Kashubian culture and literature.
