These surnames all interconnect inthe family so i have a few theories:
The mother is sometimes listed in FAMILY SEARCH as Laura Worley, and the father sometimes as James F or James W.
James F is the grandfather, james W is the uncle. Based on these, and that he was at his grandfather's farm in the census records in 1900, along with his sister - there could be a chance that Laura and her husband James Warley/Worley raised Claude for a while? There's no chance she's the mother as the age range is a little close?
So my actual theories would be:
It's either a Lamb, Ricker, Keller or Hipps or maybe Crum name as they all had farms near each other - and were usually found in North Carolina, because Greene Co. came out of North Carolina at some time in the late 1700s.
The reason this is HELLISHLY DIFFICULT (or as i the millenial would say 'HELLA' ... ok maybe i wouldn't, i'd say something far more dirty and disparaging and annoying.. because i have a potty mouth, and right now i am afraid that doesn't work to solve brick walls LOL) - is because Tennesee didn't start doing certain records until like 1908. We can get federal census, we can get war records.
Also, there's a Claude H Still(s) in the Spanish American war - but Shirley Haldeman's (Shirley Cotter Still) father was WAY TOO YOUNG, it turns out that's antoher Still or Stills family, and no relation as far as I can see.
There are MORE data brick walls, but this is the largest one.
It's suggested the lady may have been born arond the similar time of William Nathan Stills,
Also supposedly ther'es other records that DO tag William as his father, but others that don't - and my source of call for who his father is is Michael Lee Stills' records, and his research - and he's got a genealogy liscence or certificate so i trust him, just that i'm a nerd and my finger walking isn't doing anything.
I have a cousin who lives in TN right now, he's a descendant of Claude Hamilton Stills - but trying to get ahold of him currently unless i pay for a dodgy phone number lookup site - is pulling teeth. He's Claude's grandchild, and the son of my Grandmother's brother Lee Hamilton Still. Freaky enough, his mother is also my great aunt on my grandfather's side from my dad's line. Lee married Harriet Marjorie Haldeman and had three kids i think it was ? Timothy died in the 90s, and Sandra died recently - and Michael Allen Still is currently in TN for some odd reason - because his father was west coast for many years?
