George Carlton - Biographical descrepency

If George was born in 1772, he would have only been 11 years-old when the British left in 1783. They remained in the Americas, but were up in Canada after they lost to the Patriots. A British General of the Kings army would not have remained.

I have doubts that George was Mack Calton's father. I have to find the source, but I read the name was Calton in Scotland, but occasionally was altered to Carlton as it is often today.
