Yes, if you look at Biagio Bucalo and the years they were born they were born before civil records in Sicily, so their primary record of birth to see would be their baptism record which is in Latin which adds some more interesting spelling variations to names sometimes too.
It could be interesting to look at their marriage records and death records to see if there is time where it might have changed, but I wouldn't guarantee it. Sometimes i think they just flipped a coin...
The topic reminds me of the Scafidi Moreci family where I think I saw one guy have both names on his birth record, and one of the names on his marriage record and then the other name on his death record....makes for a fun puzzle....
