Diane told me quite some time ago that she had engaged a Czech genealogist who came acroos the Neubauer connexion, but it is a mystery to my wife, Louise's great grand-daughter.

Updates of my 3 questions related to Buxbaum/Rosenberger connections in case any of you have ideas::

1. The records I have from the Czech archives on Moritz and Louise marriage have her maiden name as Neubauer - do you know if there was another marriage in there, or was she raised by relatives named Neubauer? There was a witness named Ignatz Neubauer. Marriage record under sources tab of both Moritz and Louise profiles in Geni.

2. In Geni, a Charlotte Buxbaum (born Rosenberger) has turned up in a record from holocaust.cz as a daughter of Joseph and Fanny Rosenberger, but the dates don't work since she was born in Marienbad in 1878, after my ggf went to the US (1869) and after he married my ggm in NY (1876). She is married to a Julius Buxbaum and both perished in the Holocaust. Have you found her anyplace else in the Buxbaum family tree or her husband, Julius? (I am on a search for another Joseph and Fanny Rosenberger.)

3. I have some correspondence from an attorney re Moritz Rosenberger's will and possible inheritance of his brother (Joseph, my ggf) and his family in New York. The correspondence refers to Moritz' wife, named Matilda. All other dates and references are correct - except the wife's name. Any idea why or how that happened? Copy of correspondence on Media tab on Moritz profile in Geni.

The Neubauer name remains a mystery and yes,mI have seen the name of the marriage witness by that name. Has your genealogist, Diane, made a mistake by any chance?

I think you sent me copies of papers relating to Moritz's will and a Matilda but this too remains a mystery. If there was a bit of history here it was well concealed.

Tim, The original record of marriage is in Geni under sources tab of profile. If you can make out the Czech, you can determine the accuracy. The genealogist who did the original search and translation is Julius Muller, so I think it is unlikely he made a mistake!

Julius Buxbaum is the son of Moses, who while not a brother of Josef's father Abraham must have been some sort of a cousin.
Abraham lived at Luka #2 and Moses at Luka #5. Perhaps Holocaust,cz is incorrect about the parents of Charlotte Buxbaum?
It does say Rosenberger in one place and Rosenberg in another.

Finally I am still at a loss to explain the birthdate on the birth record (provided above) with the one listed in the holocaust archives.
But I guess the problem isn't that (the Nazis...) didn't make mistakes in their record keeping but that when we are piecing all this together we are dependent on their record keeping to find fragments of what they stole.

Here's what I am going with the the Neubauer thing.
It is a transcription error. It says Buxbaum. Also Ignatz. The handwriting is rough.
I will run it by someone I consider a handwriting expert.

Then the witness could have either been this guy: Ignatz Isak Buxbaum (The bride's great uncle) or this guy: Ignaz Buxbaum

Jonathan, great sleuthing! I'm usually at a loss when it comes to reading other languages unless the penmanship is perfect - and sometimes not even then! I have to depend on the kindness of cousins and other strangers. Thanks so much!

I have tried to find Charlotte's birth information in badatelna.eu but thus far unsuccessful. I did used the info on the one record to translate her birthplace into Czech (Karlovy Vary) but did not find anything looking like Charlotte for 1878. Again, reading script isn't my strong suit. Would dearly love to link Charlotte to her real parents since it seems unwelcoming to dismiss her from one set of parents without replacing them!

I need to go back and remember Charlotte as I am only distantly related to her if at all.
Louise is more of interest to me as her mother was my great grandfather's sister.
Her birth record gives a different birthday, by 11 months, then the death records. Perhaps she needed to be younger than Moritz for their wedding? My maternal grandmother did this .

As for the Neubauer thing. I don't swear that it says Buxbaum on the document we are looking at. But maybe it does. Or maybe this document is a mistranscription of a previous document .
If we make a game out of it:

?uxbau? The second and 3rd letters could definitely go either way in this text.

Maybe ,maybe the first letter looks more like an N than a B to our eyes, maybe the last part makes er rather than m.

It still could have been mistranscribed..
I will run this by someone when I can and get back to this .

I look forward to the expert's analysis of the handwriting. Those old records are very hard to decipher.

Also, going through the birth records for Luká now, just found two more babies for Josef and Rosa, -Julius 1869 and Karl 1871.
When I am done I will also go through the death book. Some of these children that we don't know about probably died very young but those that didn't could turn out to have a tree as huge as Kamille's
