Like this---merge requested...why does it have to go to someone for approval?
For historic profiles set as living by mistake, please post on this discussion:
https://www.geni.com/discussions/158890?msg=1099634
For merges that take a curator to resolve due to abandoned trees, curators service on this discussion:
https://www.geni.com/discussions/178003?msg=1199698
They are both “sticky” but you may want to “follow.”
Hope this helps.
I did some but not all of the merges requested around https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000012092467825?highligh...
There were a couple of names that did not match.
One of the trees was isolated but now is joined to the world family tree - Martha Viola "Ola" Henderson - I am following through with more merges there.
For the Levi Self tree, please resolve conflicting data.
Heather, any time there are "communal trees", there will be people adding what they (think they) know. Here at Geni we at least have an organized discussion process where we can hash out whether such additions (or occasionally subtractions) are legitimate or not.
The only way to *make sure* nobody else adds anything to "your" tree is to keep it offline.
Private User -- I do remember once upon a time, permission/approval was required for Merges. But now - Curators can merge without anyone's permission - period.
AND - for any Profile that is Public and connected to the World Tree - believe anyone also on the World Tree can merge - definitely any Pro can merge without any approval needed.
Profiles in a separate Tree need the permission of a manager of the Profile or
in the Max Family of the Profile [someone correct me if I have that one wrong] -- OR can be done by a Curator.
Private Profiles need the approval of someone in the Max Family of the Profile or of a Manager of the Profile -- OR can be done by a Curator.
So sorry for your discomfort, cousin. I am a DNA confirmed match to Thomas Michael Little and he and i have been trying for some time to figure out our DNA match... I remember many years ago, corresponding with someone (Sharon Davis, a distant cousin whom I had never met but SHE lived in the same town as my ancestors---OUR ancestors)... she had "heard" from a cousin that I was searching for family and she was MOST happy and eager to help and so she wrote me a lovely letter, by hand and mailed...it was back in the 1980's before the internet...she wrote to me of each child of my great grandfather. Stated that Theodore had NO children....well I KNEW that to be incorrect. I was afterall, and AM, the great granddaughter of said Theodore. My grandfather Arvel was an ONLY child...he said it was "lonely"...
Thank you. I "feel" your concerns...I hear your wish to protect ...I only seek to find what is mine/my ancestry. I have longed to find my ancestors since a little girl. It is a journey. NOT a hobby. It is as MUCH a calling to me/for me as is motherhood, marriage, my Nursing degree/career. I think I have said enough. Thank you all for "listening."
Humbly yet tenaciously yours, Cynthia
I assure you, if you are related to Mike, the cousin connection is MUCH closer...and LIKELY an ancestor YET unidentified but I believe DNA genealogy AND GENI will be the catalyst... Heather Little is your 14th cousin once removed.

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087 - I said "for any Profile that is Public and connected to the World Tree - ... any Pro can merge without any approval needed." --
Please Note - my statement that "any Pro can merge without any approval needed" was Clearly about merging with Public Profiles on the World Tree --
Considering that I then went on to discuss Profiles not on the World Tree, and Private Profiles - all of which I said needed permission OR to be done by a Curator - hard to understand how you so totally misunderstood!!
Tho I did leave out the situation where one is trying to merge with a Master Profile, as opposed to a Public or a Private Profile. There, sometimes one can, sometimes it needs a Curator.

G'day Lois, I like your explanation and outlining of what constitute max family and close family with regards to where you believe that it is OK to set yourself up as "manager" . Is that an official GENI definition or just your qualified guess?
Lois Lubin is your 6th great aunt's fourth great nephew's wife's third cousin.

I dare suspect that were you a bit more active and collaborative and willing, the "relationship" would be less red, green...and perhaps a bit more true blue. And YET, I am "ok" with this...knowing that I am open to discussion and always willing to help AND ask for assistance, for the benefit of a PROPER, TRUE ONE "tree"
