Peter Q did die in the Civil War, but he is interred at Arlington National Cemetery Section 13 grave 7668. He served in the NYS 111th Infantry Regiment. The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs lists his age as 42 at enlistment. Go figure, he was at least 64 then. His son Peter also served in the 111th Regt. His son died at Andersonville, not the father. Peter Sr moved from Monmouth County NJ to Cayahoga County NY after selling his share of his father's (John Q) land to his brother Ruliff and brother in law John Boice in 1838. See Monmouth County Clerk records book P3 page 401. Anyway, the town of Ledyard NY has a memorial to the town's men who lost their lives in the Civil War. Both Peter and his son Peter are recognized. Peter's (Sr) son Garret also served in the 29th NJ Volunteers. He is my great great grandfather by way of Augustus, his youngest son. I don't know why Peter Sr left his sons Garret and Charles in NJ when he and Maria moved to NYS. He and Maria had at least one son, Robert born in NJ when they moved. You can look up Robert's military history at the NY State site.
