It is not possible for this John Dutton to be the son of Sir Ralph Dutton who was born in 1601. Sir Ralph Dutton was the younger brother of John Crump Dutton, who was born in 1598. Thus it is impossible for John Dutton, who was born in 1596 to be the son of this Ralph Dutton. However, I am a descendant of Sir Ralph and I have DNA matches on Ancestry.com to multiple descendants of this John Dutton. Therefore there is no doubt that this John Dutton is a part of the Dutton family. It is more likely that this John Dutton is descended from the Duttons of Cheshire. Sherborne was purchased by Thomas Dutton 1507-1581 who was a younger son of Wiliam Dutton 1482-1512. William's older son, Hugh, 1502-1540, would have inherited the Dutton properties in Cheshire. Likely this John Dutton is the son of Ralph Dutton (1562-1638), son of John Dutton (1536-1567), son of Hugh Dutton 1502-1540.

I was interested in your DNA comment. I can trace my line back to Thomas Dutton of Reading, Ma. through my grandfather. I also have an Ancestry DNA profile which connects to some Dutton lines.
