This family has been studied and published in peer reviewed journals, in fact several times, and in fact, in the most respected journal: The American Genealogist.
https://americangenealogist.com
“For ninety-five years, The American Genealogist, affectionately known as TAG, has been America’s premier independent genealogical journal.”
Conclusions are described here as well as in the profile overview:
https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:John_Thayer_%281%29
Many genealogist have researched the English origins of the Thayer family of New England including Douglas Richardson,[1] Neil D. Thompson,[2] and Clifford L. Stott.[3] In 2004, The New England Historic Genealogical Society published Part III of "The ancestry of Eva Belle Kempton, 1878-1908" reflecting the current state of research on this topic. In it the authors identify the person represented by this profile as "unknown Thayer" possibly the husband of "Constance ____." Only four children are identified:
JOHN, born say 1530
THOMAS, born say 1533; buried at Thornbury, Gloucester, 17 March 1573;married by 1558 ____
JOAN, born say 1533; married at Thornbury, Gloucester, 15 November 1553 THOMAS JAMES
CONSTANCE, born say 1540; married at Thornbury, Gloucester, 19 February 1560(/1 ?] THOMAS HOLDBROOKE[4]
The other children show on this profile probably have no proven connection to this family group. The maiden name of his wife Constance is unknown. And the first name of the person represented by this profile is unsubstantiated.

I suggest you read the articles for further illumination.
Hi Bruce,
I’m sorry for your upset, and I’m happy to discuss this further; and of course you are more than welcome to raise a ticket with Geni.
I am related to this line. Cicely Davis Is the immigrant Ancestor and Geni shows her as my fourth great aunt's fifth great grandmother. So that’s not a DNA connection but she does fall into my “family tree” (along with many others! Including other Geni volunteer curators).
Geni, as you know, is a world family tree, aiming to be as accurate and evidence based as possible. There are known, documented, and published studies, available for some years now, describing the errors in previous genealogies, and concluding that at a certain point in history, we currently know no more.
Perhaps that will change in the future and we will be able to push back the validated tree, generation by generation. But Geni does a disservice to link inappropriately - particularly in the face of authorities in Colonial American genealogy saying otherwise, in print.
The “by tradition” pedigree is continued by link within profile “about” to the disconnected parent. This is the technique used for the last 8 years on Geni.
More than happy to discuss a different display name option. A genealogy standard for a person whose name we do not know is to use N.N., an abbreviation for Latin phrase “nomen nescio”, or “I do not know the name.”
In this case the thought of his name was Thayer, Tayer, Tawier, and other possible spellings.
I will probably continue with more references. At this period (1400 - 1600) there is better knowledge / record keeping of English landed gentry, of course. So we can more authoritatively describe who a person was not than who they were.
Something to keep in mind, for all of us who descend from those who arrived in America in the Great Puritan Migration, is that there were some 25,000 people in that emigration, but we do not currently know the English Ancestry of many of them, and those we do know, often only a couple of generations back. The registers of baptisms and burials kept by the Church of England are extant beginning in varying dates. So we are fortunate indeed that the Thorbury registers are available and we know as much as we do know!
(Should be Thornbury, of course).
I decided to look up the published records for Cecily Thayer, and quickly found:
https://books.google.com/books?id=aicwAAAAYAAJ&vq=Wilhelmus&...
The Thayer Family of Thornbury: A Study Trying Its Reconstitution Tomás Thayer Ojeda 1907 Page 19
Giving her as daughter of Edward Tayer or Tawier and Katherine Eddys
But! According to notes in her profile:
———
From Thayer Family Geneaolgy Forum:
RE: Cicely Thayer, I have the following errata from the Thayer Families Association Web page which refers to Patricia Thayer Muno's book "The Thayer - Tayer - Theyer Families of Gloucestershire, England. It corrects some misinformation which has been promulgated for several years.
Compiled by G. David Thayer
The following corrections to this book are required owing to discoveries made by researcher Clifford L. Stott and published in The American Genealogist.1 The errors corrected here were caused mostly by misreading of original parish registry entries from the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Thornbury, Gloucester, England by Walter Faxon, Edward Henry Whorf, and Henry Ernest Woods.2
Number 93 (page 69) Cecily Thayer, who married James Davis and was an immigrant to America, was actually the daughter of #66 John Thayer (Tawier) and Joan Lawrence (page 68). She replaces child vi, #72, Evelyn (or Ellyne) Thayer. Woods3 misread "Cicelye" as "Evelyn (?)" in the will of her father, John Thayer, which led to the confusion about Cicely’s parentage. Cicely was baptized as "Sicely Tayer" on 1 May 1600. All other information about Cicely given on page 69 of this book is believed to be correct.
——-
So what does the Thayer Family Association currently have on your Wilhelmus Thayer?
I’m not offended but you do misconstrue my interest in Cecily Thayer. If you notice she was detailed with citations by me (you can see that by examining revision history in that link in the “about” for that profile).
Why would I do that unless I was sincerely interested in who she was, where she came from, and her legacy?
If you are so certain that Wilhelmus Thayer was the father of John, why are there no citations in his profile demonstrating the evidence?
I have great respect for Family Associations, and there’s a TFA, who has published an up to date book. What do they have to say?
In terms of your Native American Heritage, tribal genealogists follow the same conventions of Genealogical Proof Standard as European origin families. Why would they do differently? If we don’t know, we don’t know ...
The science of DNA matching is a wonderful thing that is advancing our knowledge quickly, but it is not yet at a point where we can work without record evidence.
And as to “royal heritage,” there are known “gateways” for Descendants of American first arrivers. I doubt you have “lost” your connection, it just may go through differently.
That sounds like a personal attack and a personal threat. I asked for evidence to support the claim and the answer is “my verbal evidence.” For a medieval profile that has been demonstrated as an error in misreading registers. For a medieval profile that affects millions, including me (whether you believe my connection to the tree is valid or not). You think it was a trivial decision? Then why did I (and others - WeRelate, Wikitree, other members ...) go to the effort to document and describe, as clearly as possible, what went wrong, why and how?
You are more than welcome to present proofs; if they exist, they are easy to find. You haven’t. Maybe that’s because the 1907 transcriber misread, the 1938 transcriber misinterpreted, the 1995 professional corrected and published, and you understand this perfectly well. But you’re having more fun threatening ...
So here is what the Thayer Family Association has on their web page:
https://thayerfamilies.org/cpage.php?pt=5
VOLUME I ‹ The Thayer - Tayer - Theyer Families of Gloucestershire England 1500-1660
This first volume consists of the genealogical information on 306 individuals who resided in Gloucester county in England, including the earliest known Thayer Ancestor, John Tayer (1500-1561/1562) through to his Great grandsons, the brothers Thomas and Richard Thayer; and his Great Great Grandson, Nathaniel Thayer, all of whom immigrated to America in the mid 1600's and settled in Massachusetts. ....

I (again) seriously owe Erica an apology.
Last night was a night to never be repeated.
I woke up this morning and realized I had written an angry message.
When I read it- realized then it was exactly the kind of thing I never want to write, but it was already written and read.
Again, I sincerely apologize, and no family history is worth causing enmity. I am very sorry Erica for the crazy new year's eve comments. There is no excuse for it either.
It won't happen again.
(just had to rewrite this... the other one didn't sound write/spelling, etc.):
It's been a rough week. Very rough. I know myself better that I need to stay off the internet when I'm having a bad day.
No excuse, just an apology. What I said was not my normal approach the other night.
The change in the tree blew me away, and I took it badly.
I'm aware now that nothing here is set in concrete. I don't rule the world either.
Thank for your understanding.
OK- I'm in a better mood!
Just for kicks, I'm going to past my notepad list that only has about 1/2 of what I had found, and not put on the list of relatives as it used to read.
I hope this sheds some light on things.
Life is tough. Sometimes we get the bad end of the stick. Time to be thankful for what we have most certainly.
The insertions with asterics are the lastest which I haven't yet transfered to another more fancy list that is color coded to help in description etc.
Again, I had compiled an additional 100 names in bookmarks of direct decendant Aristocracy, along with more contemporary famous people to yet add, like Albert Shwietzer, William S. Burroughs, etc. etc. etc....
Many of the names not yet put on this list are from before the year 1200 or there-abouts. I was having a lot of serious fun with it.
It still means the same thing to me. I will have to search other ways is all.
My list called "Kings" as follows:

Saint Joan of Arc or The Maid of Orléans (French: Jeanne d'Arc, ca. 1412]– 30 May 1431 is considered a national heroine of France and a Catholic saint.
A '*peasant' girl born in eastern France who claimed Divine guidance, she led the French army to several important victories during the Hundred Years' War which paved the way for the coronation of Charles VII. She was captured by the Burgundians, sold to the English, tried by an ecclesiastical court, and burned at the stake when she was nineteen years old.
(Joan being a 'peasant girl' is speculative and not exactly true stemming from fetish opinions via popular academia. There is an alternative theory that she was the legitimate daughter of Charles VI and Isabeau of Bavaria, for more go here: Was Joan of Arc a Peasant Girl? The Evidence Says No!)
Joan asserted that she had visions from God which instructed her to recover her homeland from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War.
Down to the present day, Joan of Arc has remained a significant figure in Western culture. From Napoleon onward, French politicians of all leanings have invoked her memory.

Joshua Moore Blanchard = Joshua Moore Blanchard
Yes- I checked it out. Thanks for finding that! I hit the "merge" button and it appeared to work already.
I have a question: I've taken 2 DNA test- I realize now that there is a lot of opportunity perhaps in finding a link to some of the 'royal' past throught that?
If so, I'm going to need coaching. I'm sure too I can find out by calling the help line on Heritage or the other program I used for the tests ( I used 2 different ones- I don't think it was geni but 1 might have been, I'd have to look it up.)
I appreciate your interest in the family tree in any way that can help.
Thanks.
It's good to be on better footing now. I hope we can all put last year in the past, and I now am understanding better about how world trees work.
