Hi,
for information - her mother was Nimwegen and not du Plessis
http://databases.tanap.net/mooc/main_article.cfm?id=MOOC8%2F46%2E68...
she is first child born out of this marriage:
d11 Christiaan Hendrik » Swartland 25.2.1769 x 23.3.1788 Soetje Elisabeth Johanna DU PLESSIS
The point is that there are many MM born circa same time, you would see immediately with your source that the father is not Jacobus Smit (your source) but this one's father is Christiaan Hendrik.
Take note that a source for a 16 year old for that stage cannot be seen as "covering all bases" - would have been better if she was married for example.
Hi Jan
Happy Christmas, thank you for replying
I do know that a Maria Madalena (who I have not yet traced) was the first born daughter of Christiaan Hendrik Smit and du Plessis as per
http://databases.tanap.net/mooc/main_article.cfm?id=MOOC8%2F57%2E21...
But the Maria Magdalena married to "David Hermanus Lucas Crause" which is the name of the husband on Maria Magdalena's mother's document (link as previous) was not the daughter of Christiaan.
Just for information use it- dont use it
Regards
Zena
Hi Zena,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Looks like you are quite correct, the MM who married David Hermanus Krause was dau. of Jacobus Smit & Adriana van Enwegen/Nimwegen. The names of their (David Hermanus Krause & MM's) children are a match to her mother's document. The MM who was dau. of Christiaan Hendrik is not yet traced beyond a 16 year-old.
Will try to get this sorted out.
Regards, Ian
Hi Ian and Zena,
I am even more confused now. The second post by Zena seems to indicate another daughter Maria Magdalena this time by VAN NIMWEGEN, however, not one of the sources seems to indicate (and can for that matter since both daughters are in their childhood, 16 and 7 respectively) a marriage to KRAUSE...
I dont see any son named Hendrik Jacobus KRAUSE, which would have been the natural name. Instead, I think because her father was also named Christiaan, like KRAUSEs father, they went for the general names of Johannes Jacobus (and not Floris, which was Hendrik Jacobus' father). Furthermore, although her daughter is named Adriana, her 2nd and 3rd names do not correspond to this supposed marriage.
Lastly, an age gap of now +11 years seems unlikely... but it is late, just stating that I don't follow your conclusions..
Regards
J
Hi Jan,
There are two different individuals both named M.M. Smit:
1 is dau. of C.H. Smit & Soetie DuPlessis.
2 is dau of J. Smit and Adriana v. Emwegen.
2 marries David Hermanus Lucas Krause (not 1, as previously incorrectly recorded on Geni tree).
Evidence is the document for Adriana Smit nee Emwegen that lists her dau. M.M. married to D.H. Krause.
Interesting to see that Maria Magdalena Crause, d7e8 has two mtDN markers
H and H1a1 (presumably two descendants have tested? )
Her new mtDNA line (through Nimwegen) leads to Maria Willemse, SM/PROG who is not yet listed on the Srammoeders mtDNA project. Would be great to add her if we can identify which of MM's descendants have tested!
Have updated her "About" with the baptism: "South Africa, Dutch Reformed Church Registers (Cape Town Archives), 1660-1970 ," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFTS-75B : 6 August 2017), Maria Magdalena Smit, 22 Feb 1795, Baptism; citing p. , Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, State Archives, Cape Province; FHL microfilm 2,214,108.
