I would like to put a call out for help in tracing the mtDNA (maternal) line of Susana Barbara Lavis. One of her descendants belongs Haplogroup L1c1d, originating in Central and West Africa, which was possibly passed down from one the early Cape slaves from Guinea/Angola. It would be great to be able to add this result to the South-African-mtDNA-Female-Progenitor project.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking for.

I'm asking for help in tracing her maternal line, ie the name of her mother, maternal grandmother, great-grandmother etc. All that is known at present is that Susanna Barbara Lavis was born 1889 in Aliwal North. Any help to identify her parents would be greatly appreciated!

Private User Hello Ian. Susana Barbara Lavis was my great grandmother and I have the mtDNA Haplotype of L1c1d. How can I help?

We need to find Susana's baptism record to see the names of her parents. Presumably she was baptised in Aliwal North.

Sharon Doubell - do you know anyone who can help us find an Aliwal North baptism from 1889/90 ?
