Jenetta was given away by her blood mother, Sarah (Picknell) Reid,* when she was a baby. She was loved and raised by Elizabeth Ann Wilding, born 12 June 1832 in Preston, Lancastershire, England and John Hamer, born 2 July 1824 in Bolton, Lancastershire, England. Their three infant children died soon after birth.
John Hamer drowned in the Jordan River in 1876 and Jenetta's mother Elizabeth married William Yemm Jeffs-- a polygamist. The Jeffs lived next door to Nettie and John.
