He is my 3G grandfather. How are you related to him? I am related through my maternal grandmother who was a Dunlap.
I live in Tennessee (though I am originally from Missouri) about 1 hour from the Franklin battlefield. Have you visited it? I have not visited the Shiloh battle field yet, but he was in the thick of it there.
Here is another neat link with info about him. http://grandpajimsgarden.blogspot.com/2014/12/family-history-friday...
The farm of his James' grandfather is a historical site in East Tennessee. http://www.tipton-haynes.org/ James T. was born in this vicinity.
My uncle has the original picture used in the profile. They have a copy of it displayed at the visitors center. The director of the battle of Franklin trust wrote about him in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Baptism-Fire-Eric-Jacobson-Richard/dp/098462...

Related directly though his daughter Emily West. My mother was born in 1912, Thelma West, her brother was Richard Lee West, WWII fighter Ace which would probably make J.T. smile unless he played cards with him for money. My moms' father was John West and his father and his father's father were all named John West so would bet that J.T.'s daughter Emily was married to a John West. My last few generations of kin were from NW Missouri.
Thanks for the very, very interesting in formation about J.T. My information about J.T. being my great great grandfather came from my dad, Glenn Burgess (1910 - 2005)
