I certainly would like to see someone straighten out the McDowell family mess in North Carolina (Joseph "Pleasant Gardens" McDowell) and Joseph "Quaker Meadows" McDowell) I don't trust much of what is online about either of their descendants. My 5th Great-Grandmother was Elizabeth "McDowell" Duff, 1748 or 58-1814 married to William Samuel Duff ca.1756-1808. I am pretty sure that she was related fairly closely to one of the above Joseph McDowell's, perhaps a sister. I think she may be "Hunting John" McDowell's daughter, but I am unsure. The name Joseph McDowell as a first and middle name was used through a couple different surnames in my ancestry, making me believe there is a closeness to one of the above two.
I am unable to decipher this tangled web. Can anyone help?
