Hi everyone,
My name is Kayla Weissmann, and I am in 8th grade.
Sorry it took me so long to write this message. I actually didn't even know that all these connections were being made until late this summer. I would just like to say that this family tree is crazy.
I started this family tree last year when I was studying the holocaust and finding family members of mine who were killed in the holocaust. I came across several family members who's names were listed on the Yad Vashem website. I spoke to my grandfather and compiled a small family tree of my father's side of the family. I worked on this tree later, when I was doing a roots project, also for Hebrew class.
I later added in some of my mom's side, and then all of you guys out there came to my aid.
I just want to say that I am shocked. I never expected anything like this to happen and I am amazed. This is so awesome!
It is crazy to think that just a year ago I thought I had a tiny family, and now I can see that it, in fact, isn't tiny. My mind is officially blown.
I think finding relatives you would have never known about is incredible and it's so interesting to figure out how you are related to everyone.
I just want to thank everyone for contributing to this amazing experience that I'm sure not many people my age would have had.
Warmly,
Kayla
Kayla, welcome. It's great you're starting to enjoy learning about family history young.
There are also projects related to the Holocaust, if you haven't seen them. And look at the Jewish Genealogy Portal for a large list of projects you might be interested in.
Geni is a collaborative tree and there are a number of very active members and curators who have both entered many trees with Jewish ancestry AND have encouraged others to enter their trees. I agree with you, that it's amazing to come and find how connected each of us is.
The other night I found out that a friend and former professor of mine is from a family that my family married with multiple times, from a small Polish village I visited the last two summers!
