Has anyone noticed that her alleged death date of "1623" was 12 years before the Maryland Colony was founded?
She is found in various family trees with (guesstimated?) birth dates of "1580" and "1600" depending on who wants to "prove" what. No birth or christening records for anyone closely resembling that name *anywhere in England* from 1570 to 1610.
So is she for real, or did somebody make her up?
Only record for any Margaret with a name resembling "Prousta" in reasonable time period:
Margret Prouiste
marriage:
26 February 1597
Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, England
spouse:
Edward Welsh
source: England Marriages, 1538–1973
Please note this is *not* an exact match, it took place in London, and the timing strongly indicates that they were *not* parents of Maj. John Welsh.
Monkey wrench time again. I managed to track down an image of the original parish record (thank you Familysearch.org). The hand is rather crabbed, but after her name can be more or less plainly made out the word "widow".
Margaret wasn't born a Prousta, Prouiste, or Proviste. She married one; he died; then she married Edward Welsh.
That makes rather a hash out of all those fanciful family trees, doesn't it?
