I have been searching for information on Bascue ancestry. For me personally, I am connected via my grandmother (Carolyn Marie Bascue), who, according to information such as censuses, marriage records, grave sites, and information from other Bascue family members, can apparently be traced back to Charles Nathaniel Bascue of Loudoun Co., Va. (birth year appears to be 1789). However, that's as far back as I can go. Would anyone be able to assist me on digging deeper and perhaps provide information for the ancestors of Charles Nathaniel Bascue? My e-mail address is kabresson1@yahoo.com.
I've read in a few message boards and other sites that Charles Nathaniel Bascue is a descendant of Michel Bastarache, one of the founders of Acadie in Canada. However, the sources that are available online, such as Canadian genealogy projects (e.g. Quebec, Nova Scotia) and US censuses, do not provide enough information to link Charles Nathaniel with Michel. For example, Michel Bastarache's family was in Canada in the 1750s (per historical accounts/records in Canada) along with his family, while Charles Nathaniel lists his parents as having been born in Virginia (per the 1880 US census). I was trying to link Charles to one of Michel's sons, but his sons appear to have also resided in Canada, with no information available for Bastarache families living in Loudoun County Va.
This is all based on information obtained from online sources, so if anyone can help shed some light on Charles Nathaniel Bascue's past, please let me know.
