Jewish or not, I don't think it can be claimed that physical and mental diversity are unique to Mitochondrial DNA. It has to be a combination of both parents' DNA or else we'd all look like our mothers. For example, there are dozens of genes responsible for hair color -- the article linked below mentions 124 such genes, only one of which is on the X (female) chromosome and the rest autosomal (meaning, combination of mother and father).

My explanation above sort of conflates mt-DNA with X-chromosome (the latter IS passed from father to daughter) however the point remains the same.

Private User - 'If your mother is Jewish you are Jewish' has nothing whatsoever to do with specific genes being passed down, since
"If you are a woman and convert to Judaism (with an “orthodox” conversion), your children will be accepted as Jewish by any Jewish community. (Matrilineal descent)"
