Who put that title in and why?
His Death Notice says "Farmer". His wife's Death Notice says "Farmer's Wife". Is there any evidence whatsoever that he was a minster of religion? Or is this just rumour elevated to legend? Copied-and-pasted from some "contributed tree" on another site perhaps?
There is some pretty strong indirect evidence against it. His ggggrandson and namesake was the famous Afrikaans poet D J Opperman. The exhaustive biography of the poet by J C Kannemeyer (who errs on the side of prolixity) says nothing about it. The autobiographical volume of poetry "Komas uit 'n bamboesstok" which touches on other quirks in the ancestry of DJO VI, would scarcely have failed to explot such a precious irony.
Is there any assertion about when, where and in what denomination, that we can check?
I dont like the way you adress the isue. Maybe you know something about poetry writers and so on but it seems to me that you havnt heard about SAG. (I am not going to tell you wahat it is) For those who knows about SAG please read about the issue in SAG page 190 b1c1d5.
You can be a Ds. Rev and a farmer at the same time. Or you can be a retired Ds who is farming. Thousands of explinations.
The beloved Apostel Paul was a misionary and a tent maker.
For general knowledge for those who are beginners or old hands in Geni who doesnt know how to look for a culprit on a profile , here is a hint. ; Click on Revissions and then again click on view.
I could have explained that me and Diederik study the same time at Leiden University, he passed and I failed.
I do know about SAG. it was compiled by people like you and me except that they did not have FamilySearch etc. There are mistakes. They are honest mistakes, Nobody deliberately tells a lie, But some of the material was told to her son-in-law by Aunt Ettie, amazingly lucid considering she is pushiing ninety, and there was no one else still alive to say she was confusing two different people, and that son-in-law told it to the person who was preparing a SAG page, and there it is in print.
The SAG page on my family, for example, contains several serious errors, despite being credited to Malherbe no less. It simply was not possible for Malherbe to check information supplied by a family member. It now is possible, and it is our duty to do it.
All I am saying is that since two death notices (which are original documents with legal status) say that the first DJO was a farmer, one needs more than an unsupprted assertion in a secondary source before accepting something else.
If you tell me he was minister of the Reformed Chuirch in Burgersdorp from 1815 to 1822, I'll take your word for it for now, but I'll still go and check. If your only source is SAG, that;'s not good enough for me.
Maak nou 'n Descendant List.
https://www.geni.com/projects/Suid-Afrikaanse-Gemeenskap-vanaf-1652...
981.

Geen Opperman tussen hulle nie.
Ek dink dit is 'n beter bewys as die woord "predikant" in SAG.
