Your grandfather's marriage record in Altavilla Milicia in 1902 is to someone named Maria Fregia and her parents are recorded as unknown on her marriage and birth records. Then in Chicago I see there is a Maria Petrancosta and parents are listed as Jasper Petrancosta and Constance Schmca. Was your grandmother married to two different Maria or was Maria Fregia perhaps a foundling and adopted by the Petrancosta family?

Gaspare Petrancosta is here and I can fix things up if you maybe have the info to clarify: Gaspare Petrancosta

Thanks

My grandmother’s name was Maria Frezia. Yes, she was adopted. I never heard about her adoptive parents but in keeping with Italian tradition, first born male is named after the father’s father, thus Samuel (actually Salvatore). First born female is a Named after the father’s mother, thus my Mom, Madeline (Magdalena). Second born male is named after the mother’s father. The second born male was my uncle Jasper! Second born female was my aunt Constance (Consetta, but the called her Gertie). Coincidence? Probably not although the surname Pentrancosta is new to me.
I visited Altavilla Milicia last August, but didn’t have any luck finding information about my grandmother. Didnt know she was from Marineo.

If you click on the "Timeline" tab on your grandmother's profile you will find links to her marriage and birth documents, etc.

the 'z' and 'g' in the handwriting can look very similar. It looks like a 'z' in some place and looks like a 'g' in some places. It looks more like a 'g' on her birth record which is why i had come up with "Fregia." I put both of them in the AKA field now so it helps come up in searches for both.

Her birth record that was filed with her marriage mentions being the foundling wheel and the foundling home in Palermo...

Her death was recorded in Chicago and whoever provided info for her parents gave the names Gaspare Petrancosta and Constance Scimeca...either an error, but yeah as it does fit the names she gave her children it sounds like it could be those were her adoptive parents.
