I'm so surprised to find this line of Hardestys. Everything I'd seen before today suggested that Francis Hardesty was the first Hardesty immigrant to Maryland. Apparently not. Would love to know how the families were related .Francis married Ruth Gaither, widow of John Gaither, in Anne Arundel . He then married Dorcas Linthicum. Francis and Dorcas are my ancestors. Please please shed light on the relationship. thank you.

well...I will look over your stuff and give it some thought. I don't know where you got any of the info before "Francis Hardesty" who was my relative who I thought was the first Hardesty in America. None of it applies to me - though you use the word "you" - maybe just as an example? But I still don't see a George arriving first...so I'll keep looking. Also my info differs from yours a bit with their ancestors...my research indicated Authur's father was Wiliam, as you say, but that Wiliam's father was also William. I will print all your info and see what I can figure out. If you have any info on when a george hardesty immigrant came to American, and what his lineage is - i'd love to see it. Sorry I couldn't make it out from what you sent. thank you...

Here is information I found. Hopefully it will help.
“The first Hardesty in Maryland (possibly in America) was George Hardesty a Puritan from Virginia who settled in Calvert County prior to 1652. It is also believed that he was of French Huguenot origin. The Huguenots were Puritans of France many of which took refuge in England about 1572. (AMB)
Shortly after his arrival in Maryland, he 'transported' his wife Cecelia from Virginia. George Hardesty acquired land grants in the upper County, including Bramdfprd. a grant of 150 acres, and Woolridge, a grant of 100 acres, both being described as lying on the south side of Land's Creek. He also acquired Hardesty's Adventure, a grant of 550 acres. George Hardesty had a daughter who became the wife of George Lingan, one of the leading men of the upper County, and a son George Hardesty, Jr., who is described as George Hardesty, Gentleman, in his will dated 1694 (AMB)
Puritans were "kicked out" of Virginia and that, to facilitate the early settlement of Maryland, Lord Baltimore gave grants of 100 acres to each immigrant who paid his own way or to each person who paid someone else's way to the colony. This was later reduced to 50 acres. (AMB)
The source is AMB; unfortunately, at the moment I've forgotten what AMB is. I need to keep better records!!!
