I am stuck at some great grandmothers on my father's side (Thompson).
Starting with Mary Thompson (1884-???), I know where she is buried, so I have her birth and death dates and I tried to get a copy of her death certificate from vital records, but they were unable to locate it, so either the date is incorrect or it was not reported. It is widely thought that she was a Shaw, but the records I have been able to find do not support that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/33428661/m-a_g-thompson
Mary's husband's mother was Ann Thompson (1845-1937). I am not sure what her first name is because the census records are hard to read and are all spelled differently. I have my great grandfather's death certificate and what is listed on it is just Ann. His father is listed as Tilman Thompson, which from what I could find appeared to be Ann's father. She later married and became a Weaver and lived with my great grandfather after her husband died and until her death according to census records.
I would be grateful for any help in getting further back in my tree.
This might be the actual find a grave memorial for her. The birth date seems more convincing and it says Mary Thompson, not "M Thompson"

Thank you, but those listings do not match my family.
Mary's husband is W R (William Riley 1879-1962). He is buried in the same place as she is, along with other family members. They were married around 1901 (the 1910 census says married 9 years). Mississippi did not keep vital records centrally until after 1912 and I do not know what county she was born in to go to the county to research. The Webster county courthouse burned about 4-5 years ago, so finding the records if they exist in the county would be hard. I did find a better picture of her grave marker that I had taken and know that she actually died in 1913, so I am going to request her death certificate and hope that it was filed with vital records. The better picture also shows that the grave marker says M A C Thompson, not M A G.
W R's mother Ann is the other hang up. I have found her on census records from 1850-1930. Excluding 1890, the only census I have not been able to come up with is 1880 for her. Since her name is spelled differently each time on 1850-1870, I can't say that I am surprised. I can provide my Ancestry.com link for her and Mary if that would help.
Hi Deanna,
This looks like your Thompsons at findagrave. https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/59128/memorial-search?firstName...
I find that adding all of the brothers and sisters assists me in finding the next generation back.
Yes, Lillie was Uncle Howard's wife. Howard was James' youngest brother and Lula was their sister. I have all of James' brothers and sisters in my Ancestry tree and their father W R was an only child. I have tried working from siblings of his mother, Ann, and still wasn't able to find anything about past generations there or on FamilySearch. Is there another avenue that may have more available records?
Looks like Mary could have been a stepdaughter of Jim Shaw.

Here is a possible grandfather (if she is a Shaw)

I think this is her possible father (Jim Shaw)
