She's a leftover from some spectacularly bad guesses about the ancestry of the Justice family of Pittsylvania County VA and Floyd County KY.
It turns out that *that* Justice family has *no* traceable relationship to the Justice family of Charles City County, VA - they came down from Plymouth County, Massachusetts, farmed for a generation or two, and then moved on. The first documented ancestor is John Justice, Sr., of Mirey Creek.
Jarvis Green is a probable descendant through John Justice's daughter Mary Green - any attempts to connect him to the Greenes of Rhode Island or the "Cherokee" Greens are spurious.
Thank you, Maven. It’s going to take me a bit to sort through your wonderfully precise response, but I’m going to share it with a childhood friend who is a Justiss. We’re trying to figure out whether we might be related through John Justice 1731-1807. Your information will help us sort through the records.
There are two known Justice families that *do* (or probably do) trace back to Charles City County, VA: the Justinian Justices (often spelled "Justus", ancestor Justinian Justus, Jr.) and the Ralph Justices (an Eastern Shore family, ancestor Ralph Justice.
William Justice of "Kittawon" almost certainly had sons John and Justinian (the latter is the probable father of Justinian "Justus"), but Ralph doesn't appear in any records until he shows up on the Eastern Shore indentured to Ms. Ann Toft, in 1669. One has to wonder what's up with that.
