Hello Cousin...I'm am a descendant of Iva (Wetig) Keeler and have started researching this side of the family as my cousin, Bob Keeler did extensive work on the "Keeler" side of the family before his passing. Is Mary the sister of my Great Grandpa George D. Wetig, Jr. that was adopted out after the mother, Mary (Christo) Wetig died? Was Leonard the adopted family name?
I have found her burial information on Find A Grave. She is buried in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa (Memorial ID# 77352690) and based on pictures of the family headstone have found information on the husband: Daniel P. O'Connor (1858-1933) and 4 of the children (Mary E. O'Connor...1902 - 1965, Anita C. O'Connor...1906 - 1979, Veronica G. 'Bonnie' O'Connor...1908 - 1988, and Jerome A. O'Connor...1912 0 1980). My mother, Judy Keeler left her genealogy notes and identified that there were 3 boys and 4 girls, so I'm missing girl and 2 boys ;-).
I have found the family of Mary J. Christo burial information in Wisconsin. I have used Find A Grave to locate "free" information to start my research. I do NOT have burial details for Mary J. (Christo) Wetig or her sister, Philipa Wetig, but the parents, brothers and sisters are detailed on Constance (Blewett) Christo biography in Saint Peters Cemetery, Elk Grove, Lafayette County Wisconsin. Her husband, James died in 1904 and she moved with family living in Iowa where she died in 1908 and returned to Wisconsin to be buried with her husband.
Thank you so much for filling in some gaps for me. I don't recall meeting you or your family, but we lived in Garden City and Wichita KS most of my life and then I joined the Air Force after college and find myself living on the beach in Florida since 1990. I've retired from that and have a son in the Army Reserves in Wichita KS. He is being "activated" and will be deploying out of Fort Bragg NC in the next couple of months.
I'm having a little struggle with the 2 Rose Wetigs. Great Grandpa George married Amanda (Chipp) after Mary (Christo) died and their 6th child was named Rose (born: 1890) and Grandpa George who married Julia Grace (Tate) named their daughter born 7/6/1911 Rose Wetig. I have recently found that my great aunt Rose Wetig Widmaier died Apr 9, 1993 at Mercy Medical Center in Oklahoma City OK.
Re: Agnes Wetig...my mother Judy Keeler left a note in her genealogy research that she died young. Eventually, I hope to do extensive research in Council Bluffs IA for more information on her and Mary J. (Christo) Wetig.
I'd enjoy talking with you on any of this information. My father, Ivan Keeler was very close to his mother Iva, but his memory is fading fast and he has been living "away from family central" e.g. Great Bend KS for many years!
Sincerely, Shelly Keeler Ohotnicky
