Elijah W. Bright and Susan Mildred Chandler were husband and wife. See 1860, 1870 census. In 1880, EWB disappears from the rosters.
Rumors among my relatives are that he/his ancestors came to USA from Germany. I seriously doubt it.
As an aside, a thoroughly studied Brecht family of Germany came to USA in late 1600's, and some of my BRIGHT relatives assume Germany is the source of Elijah's Brights. As I mentioned above, I serioiusly doubt it, depsite being "wishfully excited" about inclusion in that study.
I disagree with Germany being the source of my Brights because 1) there are no irrefutable docs that make a connection there.
2) I further disagree with implications based on personal initials among Jacob Bright's (from Brechts-turned-Brights), such as "E.W.B" . and "Eliza W. Bright" related to 8 other siblings (thus 9 total). They were sired by a rascally man, Jacob Bright (1790-1863), from either Lancaster PA or Middlebrook, Augusta, VA, who abandoned his over-burdened wife (Mary Polly Grimm) to run off to Indiana with another woman, Susanna Trimble. Mary Polly's, W. Bright, lived until end of end of 1800's; early 1900's.
MY Elijah is obviously evident in the 1860, 1870 census. Then, for 1880 census, EWB disappears. He actually died in 1879, as evidenced by a cockamamie death certificate that was full of clerical errors. Yet, with some closer investigative work, the truth came out. Elijah W. Bright died in 1979, approx 59 yrs old, depending on whether one accepts 1860 or 1870 census birth references.
WHO KNOWS ABOUT Elijah W. Bright of Gilmer County, West Virginia? IN 1820, year of his birth, today's WV and VA were one state. WHO WERE HIS PARENTS? Form WHERE?
Thank you, thank you , in advance for some insights with doc/data references.
Stephen Sage, son of L. Marguerite Bright, daughter of Charles Laco Bright, Son of Ai Bright, son of Elijah W. Bright, of West-BG-Virginia.
