My husband's great grandfather, Samuel B. Page Samuel B. Page was possibly orphaned and/or taken in by another family. Paper trail research and autosomal DNA has confirmed that Sam had an older brother, John Fred Page John Fred Page. They were both born in Lyon County, KY, USA. John Fred (sometimes seen as just John, just Fred, Fred John, John F., J. F., F. John) and family moved to Arkansas at some point, where some of his 8 children were born. Both Sam and John Fred are later seen in Cincinnati, OH in several city directories, living near each other.

Sam died on April 16, 1944 in Columbus, OH, where his son, Carter Leslie Page (my husband's grandfather, and Sam's only child), was living at the time. Sam - and his wife Addie, and son Carter - are buried in the Wallace Family Cemetery #2 in Marshall County, KY (Sam's wife was Sarah Addielade "Addie" Wallace). The birth year on his gravestone (added by Christopher's aunt, who may not have had the correct birth year) is 1872. The birth date on his death certificate is May 10, 1871 (parents unknown).

To make matters more confusing, records show that another Samuel Leslie Page (different middle initial/name) was born on the exact same date, 7 counties over in Kentucky, in Monroe County https://geology.com/county-map/kentucky.shtml. Same middle name as my Sam's son, but as far as my research has shown, my Sam never lived in Monroe County, KY! That Samuel Leslie Page died August 26, 1939, and is buried in Texas.

The brothers (Sam and John Fred) first appear together in the 1880 U.S. Census, in the household of Dan and Lucinda Hill (nee Wilson).

The 1900 U.S. Census lists Sam as a boarder with the Swihart family (middle initial listed wrong as D. instead of B.). The Holland family, who witnessed Sam and Addie's marriage in 1901, are listed 2 families above the Swihart family on this census.

There are MULTIPLE erroneous Ancestry trees that feature John F. Page in the WRONG Page family (William W. Page, 1828-1906, and Catherine Banks, 1828-1891). The 1870 U.S. Census (taken Sept. 2, 1870) for William and Catherine in Columbia, Adair County, KY, (even further away from Lyon County than Monroe County) shows a John F. Page, age 8/12, meaning he would have been born in January 1870. MY John Fred Page was born March 8, 1868 in Lyon County.

My husband's FTDNA Y-111 test results show that, within a 95% certainty, he has a common ancestor with 3 Page men within 8 generations. I'm trying to connect the dots between generation 4 (Sam B. and John F. Page) and generation 8.

According to the FTDNA Page surname project administrators, Christopher’s best Y-DNA matches are "to our DNA Group P members who descend the early Pages of King & Queen and Goochland Counties, Virginia. Since that Page clan has been researched so well through our many years, it would seem that his ancestors would be easy to identify. He matches almost as well to our members who descend Goochland by way of the Edgecombe-Pitt Counties of NC or surrounding counties."

The following are possible ancestors of Sam and John Fred:

THE KENTUCKY DESCENDANTS OF ROBERT PAGE & RACHEL BROCKMAN OF GOOCHLAND CO., VA, TO CASWELL CO., NC AND FINALLY TO SPARTANBURG CO., SC

THE KENTUCKY DESCENDANTS OF JOHN PAGE & EDITH CAUTHON OF GOOCHLAND CO., VA

TENNESSEE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN PAGE JR. & UNITY HARRIS OF GOOCHLAND CO., VA > PITT & MARTIN CO’S, NC

Sam's wife Addie Wallace was the daughter of King Solomon Wallace (not pretentious at all, lol!) and Nancy M. Howard. Sam and Addie's Page-Wallace marriage is one of 7 Page-Wallace marriages I've discovered, from those born in the 1790s through the early 1900s! I know how all of the Wallaces are related to one another, but am stuck on the Pages.

Sam and Addie were married by William M. Holland, at the minister's house, by the gate, witnessed by the minister's family. Mr. Holland is listed as a farmer in census records, so he was likely a part-time M.G. on weekends. John Fred's wife Cynthia was the daughter of Elizabeth Catherine Smith (nee Holland). I haven't yet determined how William M. Holland (and his family) are related to Elizabeth.

While any of the ancestors listed above could lead directly to Sam and John Fred, I've seen a photo of Joshua P. Page (married to Emmeline Wallace-- Emmeline was Addie's 2nd cousin, once removed!), and my husband and son's eyes are staring back out at me. I know you can't go by looks, but my hunch is that Joshua is related to Sam somehow, just as Emmeline is related to Addie. Joshua P. Page

I've combed through the guardianship/ward records on FamilySearch, looking for the brothers (together or separately), to no avail. John Fred's death certificate (his widow Cynthia-- sometimes seen as Syntha or Cyntha-- was the informant) lists his father as Gilbert, but I can find no Gilbert Page anywhere in the Southwest part of KY. The Holland and Hill families are seen in several guardianship/ward records with other wards, earlier than the brothers were born.

I have a 17-page document introducing Christopher to his fellow Group P members in the FTDNA Page Surname project, if anyone would like more information about the known lines of Sam's possible ancestors.

I'm hoping to discover who Sam and John Fred's correct parents were (and eventually get all of the other Ancestry trees corrected!)
